Don’t use Triple A Air Conditioning & Construction!
*** (AKA ***) of Triple A Air Conditioning & Construction took our deposit didn’t do the work and left the siding off our house!
We found *** (AKA ***) on Porch.com and asked him to give us an estimate on removing some dry rot, replacing a shower in our guest bathroom and installing some sheet vinyl in both the guest and master bathrooms.
The estimate for the shower seemed reasonable, but for the flooring he was charging over $20 per square foot and we had already purchased the flooring ourselves.
From Home Advisor:
Installing sheet vinyl costs around $3/sf. Installing luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) or planks (LVP) costs considerably more, hovering at $7 per sq. ft..
*** was the third contractor we had out to look at the bathroom and so by that point we were stressed and frustrated and after negotiating the flooring price down, we still decided to use his services and paid him a 10% deposit of $500.
He was then supposed to come over the next day with his helper to look at the job and determine the tools they would need. He cancelled due to rain and said he would start on Monday instead. He arrived on Monday with his helper, took off a couple pieces of the siding of our house to expose the dry rot and told us that he was going to Home Depot to get supplies and update the estimate. He said he would be back in the afternoon and around 2:00 he still wasn’t back yet, so we contacted him to find out what was going on. At that point he proceeded to tell us that because of the little bit of mold that was there, that if a mold remediation team came out to remove it would cost us over $5000, but that he could do it for $1550.
At that point we cancelled the job and demanded that he return our deposit. Long story short, he never gave us our $500 deposit back. Upon further investigation it was found that he has had numerous small claims judgments against him. He is also operating without a Home Improvement cert. Con!
Contractors Statement: The job as stated in the preliminary boiler plate change in scope immediately after opening the area up. The mold and dry rot area were clearly much larger and needed to be properly and legally removed and it clearly states on the contract “Not included unforeseen item [s] and behind the walls and ceiling”. After opening the wall, I discover problem was more severe then what these people have described in the past. Obviously prices had changed. An addendum would be required for the remediation and disposal, I advised them of the changes and was anticipating a little back and forth since there were going to be additional costs and the steps required for the treatment ,disposal and rebuilt.
I got instead an underserved threatening response from both of the clients. Both of the women took turns yelling close up, accusing, questioning my integrity, and getting sprayed with spit. Was told to leave the area opened, since they were to have (it turns out) a fourth contractor to come in and reevaluate .
They were so to toxic in their interactions, baiting so early on, that any further association was not smart. I felt anything this soon into the project would be a pretext for them to question legally accepted remedies or refuse payment.
I returned $400. Of the $500, leaving a balance of $100 for my time and the abuse I was subjected to, however; I decided to return $100. [Defamation would cost them]. How dare they ask to play wink wink and break the law. I have not played wink wink for the past 45 years in my business life why would I start wink wink business in my later days!
Thanks for the opportunity to explain my side.
I am rejecting this response because: It is untrue. I’m not gonna go back-and-forth with this company, but I have all of the phone calls all of the text messages and I have a check from him a cashiers check for $400 he said he paid me back the hundred dollars that never happened .
Good morning,
I received your email last night if I remembered correctly I said in my original response that I will be mailing a check for $100 and it was last Thursday and Friday was an extremely busy day for me And Monday I got your email. I always thought by law we have a reasonable amount of time to respond to this kind of matters.
However, I will get this taking care of by this Wednesday.
Thanks for understanding.
