Review: My daughter is going to this business and whenever she goes in they want her to pay before they will see her. They are collecting more money than is owed for each appointment. For example on her appliance they told us we had to pay $830. When I look at what we actually had to pay for that it was only $490. I am not sure how they figure out what is owed. Currently there is a credit on my account and they owe me $238.40. I have had multiple communications with them trying to get this money back and have not gotten it back. This goes back to appointments from the end of 2015. The only reason there is not a larger amount they owe me is because on some of the appointments I told my daughter not to pay anything on the day she visited them.Desired Settlement: I just want the money back that they owe me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I just wanted to let you know that I did receive the check from TMJ. I deposited in my account on May 2.
Regards,
I paid in full (out of pocket) over $1,000 for a jaw splint to help realign my jaw and reduce inflammation in the joint. At first the insurance company wasn't going to cover the splint but then I received word that the insurance did decide to cover the splint as it was deemed medically necessary, which I have documented proof of.
After over 6 months and MANY calls to the TMJ Center and my insurance company, the issue is still unresolved. The TMJ billing office promises they will follow through with paperwork and phone calls and they do not. The insurance company has documented proof of letters they have sent to the TMJ billing office and the office denies receiving them. I call once and explain my story in great detail only to call again a week later with no note or documentation of my previous call. I have put over 25 hours of phone calls to check-up on TMJ Center's billing office's responsibilities. As a patient that is not my job. The billing office can NOT be trusted. Their policies should be looked over to see how long a patient would have to wait to receive a proper resolution.
My insurance company has paid for the jaw splint and so have I. TMJ Center has cashed the insurance company's check, but have not refunded the over $1,000 they owe me.
Also, according to my insurance company, the TMJ Center would not have considered refunding me at all unless I called personally requesting the refund. Evidently the other 9 times I called didn't account for me wanting my money back.
It is unfortunate the billing office is so untrustworthy as I have had a fairly positive experience with my doctor, physical therapists, x-ray technicians and secretarial staff in Pewaukee.
I would not recommend TMJ & Orofacial Pain Treatment Center, especially the Wauwatosa billing office. Their behavior in withholding the money they owe is unethical.
I understand that the TMJ Center will be reading this review and I hope my comments will improve the way they do business in the future. Please realize that from what I have heard from others who have used TMJ Center services my complaint represents many other patients who have had similar negative experiences. Additionally, I noticed that the TMJ Center already has 8 private claims against them on the Revdex.com website. Seven of these are against the billing center.
I visited the clinic on 10/8/15 in regards to TMJ clicking and tinnitus. Before the appointment, I was told the overall consultation would cost me $70. I arrived to my appointment, and the staff was extremely unfriendly, rude, and unprofessional. The facility itself was extremely old, outdated, and felt unsanitary. I waited almost an hour past my appointment time until I was finally seen by a nurse. After going through my in-depth review with the nurse, Dr. [redacted] finally came in for no longer than two minutes and just pushed in my ears extremely hard, felt my jaw, and said "Yes, you have TMJ". We will get you scheduled for x-rays and physical therapy. Really?!
The whole business is a fraud for people's money. When I said my employer offers free physical therapy, and that they could send a form of what needs to be done, the receptionist looked at me and rolled her eyes, handed me a piece of paper and said, "Well, then I need your fax number!". Customer service is not her specialty!
I was then charged the $70, only to find out now in December when reviewing my insurance claims that my insurance was charged $140, in which they paid $130. I had to call billing, and they said they have no idea why the front desk charged me, and they will refund me a portion of that cost at the end of the month. I knew from reading the reviews that this place screws up everyone's bills, overcharges, and [redacted] your insurance. Let's see if I actually receive a check at the end of the month!
Recommendation: Ask your dentist or gain another opinion before visiting this office. I did this research on my own before consulting with my dentist, who said he would never recommend his patients to go there. Lesson learned!!
My daughter was referred to the clinic for TMJ and therapy. She visited the clinic from 11-27-13 to 2-5-14. Since 01-14, the clinic has billed us MULTIPLE times, in an attempt to get us to pay bills that were already paid! I have sent the clinic numerous letters and documentation showing that the total amount owed, $1,361.35 has been paid in full via check and credit card, but the clinic continues to send erroneous bills. The 6/7 bill showed we owed $50, yet we just received an 8/7 bill showing we owe $108.16! I have proof and documentation showing that all bills have been paid in full. I have sent them, again, to the clinic. I am tired of being harassed by them and tired of providing the same documentation over and over again.
