Three Brothers Roofing and Home Exteriors Reviews (%countItem)

I paid Three Brothers $961.50 on 10-15-19 and was promised repairs that would start in November of 2019. We have not heard from him since and he will not return our phone calls. He cashed the check already and is not providing me a refund or calling me back

Customer Response • May 04, 2020

I received a cashier's check in the amount of $961.50 dated 04/23/20 from *** (Three Brothers Roofing). Thank you for your help.

I paid Three Brothers Roofing to install fascia, soffit, and drip edge and they performed shoddy work. When they ran out of materials they left bare spots of wood exposed, left screws missing, and gutters barely on. hanging on. Fascia was being ripped off every storm and many areas of soffit appear wavy.

We hired this company to do our soffit, facia and guttering. We signed the contract in April. He started work in June. We have paid him $5750 out of a total cost of $9400 for the job that is about 80% done. The last we spoke to him was July 13, he said that he would be here all weekend and he came but only stayed a short while, at 5 p.m. We have called and sent text messages, sometime he returns texts but he doesn't return phone calls. When he has been here, he's been here working by himself, or he has high schoolers working with him that don't appear to know what they are doing. We don't know if there is a lien on this or not. He has left big equipment here (24 foot ladder and a bender here as well). He needs to pick up his equipment.

We contracted *** at Three Brothers Roofing back in May 2019 to make repairs to our roof. We met with him a few times and signed an agreement and gave him $5,597 to order our shingles and get the job started. He cashed the check and told us he would start within the next week. It has been weeks of excuses, lack of communication with no phone calls or emails, and he has not started the job and we are at the point now in August that we want a full refund. We need our roof repaired and want to move forward with another company that will do so in a timely manner. His lack of communication is very unprofessional and we will not use his company moving forward. I have tried to contact him by phone and email. He contacted me this week saying his phone was broken and that he would install our roof soon, however, we are past the point of reconciling this relationship and only want a full refund to move forward with another company to do the job he was paid to do. No further communication from him has been received.

We originally hired Three Brothers Roofing and Exteriors to fix a small gap between our roof and a wall in which water was leaking into our garage and birds were building nests inside our soffit/fascia. *** from Three Brothers Roofing and Exteriors proposed we replace our 4" gutters with 6" gutters and install a couple downspouts and water diversion panels to better guide water to our gutters. They were also supposed to patch the gap so birds could no longer get inside our soffit/fascia. All the work was completed except patching the small gap. I noticed birds had gotten back inside the soffit/fascia. My neighbor is a home builder and I had him come over and he patched the hole in less than 30 minutes.
Here is the major complaint - We had under decking installed with a gutter system and the gutters were leaking. on 12/4/2018 I had *** look at the leaking gutter under the deck. He informed me the boards holding the roofing up were bad and something needed to be done to fix the issue. I researched a product from *** and *** said he could install it. *** said it would take about 1 week to complete. I wrote him a check for $500 to remove the existing soffit and material and dispose.
• 12/18/2018 – He wrote a bid for the entire project to be completed for $9200. He demanded $5500 to pay for materials to get started. I wrote him check number 1432 for $5500 to pay for materials and get him started. The previous $500 check was agreed upon to go towards the total of $9200. At this point, prior to him beginning the project, I paid him a total of $6000.
• On 1/9/2019, *** sent me photos which I have saved on my phone of all the removed soffits. The *** materials were delivered and ready to install.
• On 1/10/2019 *** text to apologize for not coming to work on the project and his text wrote…”Hi *** sorry about today. I had all kinds of running to do. After today you have our full undivided attention.”
• On 1/22/2019, which I hadn’t heard from him since 1/10, he text me..”Hi *** just wanted to touch base and let you know we haven’t forgot about you. The weather isn’t cooperating with us lately. Too Windy and cold to mess with these metal panels.”
• On 2/17/2019 *** texted he wanted a “progress payment” and at that time the job wasn’t ½ complete. His text…”Hey *** is there any way I can come by and drop off that paperwork and grab a progress payment from you? Say $1000? If you cant today then tomorrow if possible? I was out of town.
• On 2/18/2019 *** sent a follow up text to see if he could get paid. I wasn’t available that day.
• On 2/20/2019 *** sent txt to see if he could come out and get a check. At this point I was very concerned because the job wasn’t nearly ½ way complete and he was insistent on getting paid. I told him I would be around all day Friday and he could get the check then.
• On 2/22/2019 *** demanded I pay him. His text wrote…”I need to get paid today as well.” I paid him $1000 with check number ***. So, now he has $7000 of the $9200 I owe him and he is not even ½ done with the project.
• *** needed the electricity shut off to do the can lights, however, he did not plan for this. Instead, he text us on 2/22/19 at 8:44am to let us know he would need it off throughout the day. If we were given a days notice or called the night before, we could have made arrangements to work somewhere else since we both work from home. He finally sent a text at 10:43am on 2/22/2019 that he was “headed your way.”
• This is when he started not coming consistently to work and the weather was much better
• On 3/10/2019 I noticed that *** had gotten tar all over our refrigerator and grill and a big spot on our concrete. I sent *** photos of the tar on the refrigerator and concrete. I spent 4 hours cleaning the refrigerator and told him via text I was not cleaning the concrete.
• On 3/11/2019 after seeing the tar mess *** left, I started inspecting his work. I noticed multiple areas on the ceiling where there were dents, scratches and holes that needed to be fixed. I marked the areas with green masking tape. I sent him a text…”Hey ***, while the weather was decent and I had good lighting I went out to clean and take a look real good at the panels. I marked areas that need to be addressed..ie dents, scratches, gaps and holes that are too big. I’m sure you are aware of these things and on your “to-do” list but want to make sure they didn’t go unnoticed.” He responded…”Ok. I’ll take a look today and I’m bringing my commercial steam cleaner to get up the tar.” He never fixed the areas where I had tape and never said anything…he just kept going on the project. He cleaned up the tar on the concrete but it is still stained bad.
• *** had not showed up to work on the project for 3 weeks.
• I sent *** a text on 4/1/2019….”Hey ***, checking in. When are you all planning to come out and finish the deck?” No response
• I sent *** a follow up text on 4/4…”Hey ***, following up on my previous text. When do you plan on coming back out to finish the deck? We will be opening the pool soon and want to get things cleaned up and in order for summer.” He responded…”Absolutely, We’ll be out tomorrow.” I responded…”finish it up next week?” no resonse.
• He never showed up and I sent a follow up text on 4/8/2019 at 11:10AM…”are you coming to finish this project? If you are not going to finish it then I need to get someone who will. You did not show up when you said you were going to. This project needs to be completed by the end of the month. I need an answer today.” At 7:29pm he responded…”I’ll be there the rest of the week.” I responded…”What time will you be here tomorrow?” and another text…”Please provide us the date you expect this project to be finished and how you are going to fix areas that I marked with green tape.”…he never responded.
• On 4/9/2019 at 11:50am *** text me…”Hi *** I’ve been dealing with a flat tire all day. I’m still planning on making it over there today though.” I responded…”Ok. I need a time frame for completion and plan for fixing green tape areas and fans.”….he never responded and never showed up that day when he said he would. I text him again at 6:41pm…”Your communication has been unacceptable and have not showed up when you said you were going to on multiple occasions. If you are not here by 8AM tomorrow morning, I will assume you are forfeiting the rest of payment and any tools and materials you have on our property.”
• On 4/10/2019 at 7:43am *** text “On my way.”
On 4/11/2018 at 8:18am *** text me "Hey *** we'll be out all day tomorrow. My girlfriend
had a mammogram appointment at Siteman Cancer Center that took all day. We'll be out first thing tomorrow." He never showed up
On 4/16/2018 at 10:41am I text ***..."I need you to call me ASAP." He never called me
On 4/16/2018 at 1:03pm I text ***..."Hey *** you are in breach of the contract due to your lack of commitment and quality of this job. Because of your failure to show up and complete this job in a timely manner, we no longer need your services. I'll be using the remaining balance as well as additional funds to fix your mistakes to complete our project. Two other companies as well as my lawyer have consulted on this regarding the quality of your work as well as your timeliness of completion. There are many mistakes leading to the whole project being redone and personal labor/lost wages. Those include: Ceiling fans wobble and not hung correctly, seams uneven, large gaps around lights, lights not in straight line, stains on concrete, outlets not cut back out, rust from nails on concrete, internet booster broken, damage to speakers, multiple dents and scratches on material requiring new panels, dents in fridge, not showing up consistently, job taking too long - 4 months, too many shims used, slope of ceiling too much, my personal labor for cleaning up tar on fridge and grill - 8 hours. You have 24 hours to remove the ladders and tools from my driveway. Any entrance to the backyard will be considered trespassing."...no response from him. He came out the next morning at 7am to pick up his stuff. For over 4 months we couldn't get him to come finish the project, but, interestingly, after this text, he was out the next morning early. He knew he would never finish it and never planned on finishing it. *** just took our money and strung the project along. We paid ***/Three Brothers $7000 of the $9200 and the deck is nowhere near completed. Their work was terrible and I have photos showing all the mistakes.

owner of Three Brothers Roofing demanded full payment for the job of repairing back deck on my house. He received full payment and cashed check months ago. He then left the job site and did not finish the job or schedule a final inspection. St. Louis Co. inspector said some of the work he did was not according to code. The reinspection is going to happen tomorrow, 7-11-18, and I have tried to contact him with no results. The house cannot pass the occupancy permit, and so has cost me the rent income of approximately $1,500-2,000 for 3 months already since the old renters moved out. The ledger board is missing on the deck and the joists are attached directly to siding according to St. Louis County. There are other miscellaneous problems as well. The old deck wood and other debris was left on site and Three Brothers Roofing has left the deck and job site as a hazard.

Three Brothers Roofing and Home Exteriors Response • Jul 17, 2018

We apologize for any inconvenience this dispute may have caused. We have no problem rectifying any errors that caused this job to fail inspection per our contract. The problem is, this deck is forty years old and needs to be replaced entirely. When advised, the customer opted not to replace and asked that we do the job as economically as possible. There isn't a ledger board on the entire deck, not just where we replaced. We followed suit as to what was done prior to keep job cost minimal. As to the trash, I have pictures of before, during, and after the work was complete and we cleaned our job site. The only debris left on the property was wood left under the stairs that was there prior to us arriving. As to the loss of tenants, we were contracted and begged to obtain permits and begin work within hours of being hired so that the customer could get an occupancy permit for the renters he had moving in. Which we did. They moved in. We accept no responsibility for the circumstances surrounding those renters not working out.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:St. Louis Co. accepted the intended work to be done on the deck and Three Brothers agreed and signed for the permit and scope of work. Then they insisted that the price be raised by a thousand dollars. I have paid them a thousand dollars over what we had agreed to in writing. I have that original contract. But they threatened to walk off the job if I didnt pay them in full before the job was finished and for a thousand more than what we had agreed. They said that they wouod let St. Louis Co. fail the occupancy permit if I ymysignaturedidnt pay immediately and a thousand more. They said if I didn't they would walk off the job site. And then when I paid them before the work was finished, they walked off anyway and we had to cattle bar the back deck from any use by renter's., and then they walked off the job site without finishing the work as per permit in their name. The loss of renter's has nothing to do with the renters that immediately moved in, it is the fact that the deck will not pass inspection by St. Louis Co. because Three Brothers did not finish the job. I have not been able to rent the property since the old renters moved out. Three Borthers also did not get the inspections done by St. Louis Co.like they were supposed to do and there was no final inspection. St. Louis Co. has indicated that the permit design which was approved (regardless of the age of some parts of the deck) was not followed by Three Brothers Roofing. The age of some of the good parts of the deck has nothing to do with the deficiencies found by St.Louis Co. Check the notice on the job site and on the website. I have paid $3,200 for this job and it was not completed and neither was the work done properly. Clear in the photo is a part of the old step landing leaning up against my house.

Sincerely
