Review: I had been a customer over a year when I purchased a 6 month health plan prior to having a serious surgery. I was told verbally and in writing that I could put my plan on hold during my recovery time. I used about 7-8 weeks of the 6 month term before my surgery (I have paperwork to back this up). On 01/16/2014 at 10:29 AM, I received an email from the owner's x-wife announcing that "For those who may not know, Theiss Institute has just closed..." I phoned and emailed both to investigate how I was to get a refund for the remaining balance... NO RESPONSE. On or around 1/20/14, I received a letter from Brian Theiss (owner), dated 1/10/14, but postmarked 1/17/14 announcing that he has had to close and essentially explaining that "due to a lack of funding, I was unable to make payment on a note..."NONETHELESS he took new customers in the weeks prior to suddenly closing AND his employees had NO advance notice of this....he literally abandoned the business. These plans are VERY expensive. The first plan I bought was about 3600 for 12 weeks (as an example)- some customers paid as much as over 10K for 12-16 week plans. Its said that he fled to Minnesota- but I think he owes his customers the courtesy of a refund for unused portions of what they paid upfront to say the least. One customer is so upset they hired a private investigator!Desired Settlement: I feel that it is only fair to receive a pro-rated refund for the unused portion I paid upfront.
Review: I contracted with T[redacted] Institute for completion of an individually planned health and physical conditioning program. The actual "program" was to begin after completion of some cardio vascular conditioning. I pre-paid $3680.00 for the 'program' which started for me on January 3, 2014- T[redacted] closed its doors January 8, 2014. When my money was accepted by the owner (Brian T[redacted]) he would have known that the service as described would not be delivered. I was informed by family members who closed the facility that there were employee tax withholding issues and the closure was government forced- this surely would have been transparent to the owner at the end of 2013 when I enrolled. The owner himself left for Minnesota prior to client notification and I understand that the gym equipment has been moved there. Subsequent to closure I obtained additional information from other clients who had a similar experience to mine and apparently there was significant monitory loss. I am interested in understanding how monies paid can be retrieved and how the Revdex.com in Minnesota can be notified as I assume the business will be re-established in Minnesota. Mr. T[redacted] is on the Board of Directors at Starkey Hearing Foundation in Minnesota at this time.Desired Settlement: I am seeking a refund of the pre-paid amount. I have written to Mr. T[redacted] at Starkey Institute but have not received a response.
