The Wool Bed Company has resolved the issue and the customer did receive her refund. The Wool Bed Company has made some changes in the financial personnel which caused the problem, and after some research the problem was found and corrected.
Review: I am very unhappy with a supposedly organic wool bed that I recently purchased from the Wool Bed Company in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and wish that the company would let me return the bed for a refund.
The bed is uncomfortable (lumpy, slanted, uneven, and hard), it smells, and it's too hot to sleep in. I am not using the bed, have not worn it out in any way, and would like to return it.
I purchased this bed on July 12, 2013, online from a person named "[redacted]", who was helpful in getting me the bed before I had company. I purchased it because I have severe allergies and needed something organic. I was extremely allergic to two previous purchases--- a Tempurpedic which severely aggravated my dust mite allergy (yes, the salesperson told me that Tempurpedics don't get dust mites, but I have the allergy tests to prove it), and a traditional mattress that caused me to wake up every day with a nosebleed. So I had already spent a considerable amount of money on beds that I was allergic to, and I had high hopes for this one, which was advertised as "organic".
The bed comes in three parts: A heavy wool base, a thin "enhancer" that goes on top of that, and a "topper" that can either be "standard" or "ultimate". I purchased the full size bed with the standard topper, for a cost of $2094. I also bought wool pillows which I ended up liking.
Anyway, from the beginning the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The topper was thin and uneven, it was shorter than the base it was supposed to fit onto, and on several occasions I woke up with red welts on my skin, as though something in the topper was biting me. I stopped sleeping on it after about three days and complained to [redacted]. She sent me a new topper, the "ultimate" version, and told me to return the old one, which I did immediately via FedEx.
When I opened the new topper, it had an extremely strong smell, kind of like a combination of insecticide and moth [redacted] which immediately sent me into an allergy fit--- nausea and headaches. If this bed is organic, how can they get away with putting something on it that is strong smelling? I let it air out in my bedroom for about two weeks. I complained to [redacted], and she said, "That bed is organic. There is nothing on it. It must have picked up a smell from the truck." That is ridiculous. The box did not smell. Nothing smelled, until I opened up the plastic bag that contained the topper. There is no way the smell could have come from a truck. The Wool Bed Company put something on the topper, probably because I said that I thought there was something in the previous topper that was biting me.
I waited several weeks before I tried to sleep on the bed again, because of the horrible smell, most of which is gone now, but I can still smell it. At any rate, every time I try to sleep on the two thousand dollar bed, I just can't do it. It's hot, it's very hard, it's uneven, it gives me a headache, and there's a big groove down the middle of it. I have not spent more than one hour in the bed since [redacted] sent me the new and odorous topper.
I sent an email to [redacted] to ask if I could return the bed, and she won't even answer my correspondence. Is there anything you can help me do about this? I appreciate any efforts you can make.Desired Settlement: I want to return the bed for a full refund.

Response:
I
know you are working on my complaint about a so-called "organic" wool
bed that I bought from the Wool Bed Company. I would just like to add
that I am trying to sleep on the bed (after all I paid $1919 for it),
even though it's extremely uncomfortable, but I just can't. Every time I
try to sleep on the bed, I get a headache and have severe sinus
problems. This is an allergic reaction. This did not happen with the
first topper. To me this (aside from the smell) proves that they
sprayed something on the second topper (insecticide?) that makes it
non-organic. If it were organic, I wouldn't be allergic to it.
When I sleep elsewhere (on a leather sofa), I do not have an allergic reaction.
Sincerely,

Response:
After reading Ms. [redacted] statement, she has since
discarded the product. We cannot pursue this matter further without her sending
the one in question back. Since she has stated that she no longer is in
possession of the bed, then we too consider this matter closed.
Sincerely,
The Wool Bed Company
Review: I bought a woolen mattress from the Wool Bed Company in 2010, with the understanding, as clarified by the warranty policies stated in the website, that I was purchasing a durable, high-quality product which would justify the price of the item.
I did follow, very diligently, all the instructions given on the company’s website to care for the mattress. After some time, however, the mattress started becoming very lumpy, uneven, and uncomfortable, to the point of becoming no longer functional or usable.
Wool Bed Company offers a program for refurbishing their mattresses. I have tried, in multiple occasions over the last few months, to contact the company via phone and email, but I have not received any word from them.Desired Settlement: I kindly request that the company provide to refurbish the mattress, and honor their commitment to sell high-quality product and to provide a good customer care.
