Overcharged for fees after registering for graduate classes at UNCC.
When registering for a doctoral class at UNCC, I noticed that a transportation fee of $65.50 was assessed which is $10 higher than advertised on their website. Also, their website did not include any mention of an Engineering fee of $75. However, after registering, this was included in my total bill. While this may just be an "oversight," it's not a good practice to charge a customer a higher fee than what is advertised. I reached out to UNCC for their comment and this is what they said, "Good afternoon, ***.
Thank you for contacting UNC Charlotte. Your request ID is ***.
The charges on your account are correct.
The university authorized a $10 increase of the Transportation Fee this Spring semester due to our new fleet of campus shuttle buses. I have notified our website processor to make an update to the tuition rate table.
The Engineering Student Fee is charged to all students under the College of Engineering.
It's listed under Special Fees on the Student Account Website.

I would like to be refunded $10 for the transportation fee and $75 for the Engineering fee.
Dear ***,
I sincerely apologize for any frustration you experienced with our website.
The Engineering Student Fee is a major fee charged to all College of Engineering students. Since this charge does not apply to all students, it is included in the Special Fees schedule on the Student Account Website. This is a required fee for your program and will not be refunded.
The $10 addition to the Miscellaneous Transportation Service Charge went into effect for the spring semester 2018. The addition covers an unlimited, all-access *** pass when the *** Blue Line Extension begins service to campus, which is expected to be in March 2018. The $10 is prorated to reflect the light rail's arrival in the middle of the semester and will not be refunded.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any further assistance.
Sincerely,
***

This is an unfair and deceptive practice to *clearlyadvertise one price on the website and then charge the customer another higher price at the time of checkout. Moreover, I am doing the university a favor by pointing out the errors on their website and they have not honored the pricing listed on their website, nor have they promised to fix the mistakes...they still exists today. I understand that things can be missed, but it's an opportunity for the university to do the right thing and charge the fees that were indeed advertised as I have pointed out. Otherwise, it's a way for them to just push whatever unadvertised fees out to their customers regardless of what they tell them directly on their website that customers should be able to trust...that's "Customer Service 101" (no pun intended). The university needs to own up to their mistakes and this should be investigated. I will be contacting the media.
