My experience with Roof DoctorAnthony D [redacted] came out at 9am to give an estimate for roof damage caused by a hail storm The house had two venting systems (box vents and ridge vents) Anthony stated that to delete one (the box vents) would make the house more energy efficient, saving on the electric bill I told Anthony that this was insurance work and I showed Anthony what insurance company had allotted for work He said that they worked with insurance companies all the time and were familiar with what the insurance companies needed He told me that this would not be a problem Anthony gave a written proposal stating box vents were to be removed Then Anthony said he could do roofing tomorrow if I let him know soon Up until this point, Anthony was very professional and attentive Shortly after he left, I called him to setup roof work for the next day (this was around 10am) Once he was aware that I wanted his company to do the work, he quickly made an excuse about bad cell reception and stated that he would call me back He never did call me back I was basically left to assume that he was not interested in doing the work However, a truck showed up around 5pm and delivered roofing suppliesWhen his crew came out the next morning five people showed up As they were starting they went over the work to be done and nobody knew anything about the box vents being deleted The foreman and another crew member left the job site for a few hours Because the crew did not know what to do and was asking me questions, I tried calling Anthony and left a message He called back and said he was at a training class He said the foreman had the work order, yet the foreman was gone I was worried about the roof not being done properly I told Anthony work would be stopped if it wasn’t going to be done right Immediately Anthony started a verbal assault stating “if I want to be a jerk” and then asking “if I want to discuss this like adults” Yet Anthony is the one who chose to be childish We had a verbal agreement about the roof I explained that we had no signed contract and at that point he became threatening, stating that he knew how to “deal with people like me” By this time the old roof was being torn off so I allowed work to continueThe roof was completed around 2pm I then called the Roof Doctor office to find out about getting a final invoice to submit to the insurance company in order to have the remaining insurance funds released At that time, I was informed that Anthony had to come out to inspect the roof on a different day (he was not able to come out at the time of the roof being done, which I was not made aware of) We agreed that he would come out on Friday (two days later) to do thisThese arrangements were made through Angie, his secretary She told me that he would bring the final invoice when he came to inspect the roof After the inspection Anthony and I discussed payment The insurance company required an itemized invoice in order to release the full amount of the repair work I had already made Anthony and Angie aware of this multiple times and had been told that he would bring the invoice with him when he came out for the inspection He did not have the invoice with him He was reassuring and said that he would just have Angie email it to me Monday came and I had not heard from the Roof Doctor, so I called Angie She stated that the itemized bill would be sent only after they received payment I told her about the conversations that Anthony and I previously had There were multiple phone calls that day trying to sort this out At one point, I did speak with Anthony and he told me that they normally charge an extra 20% for an itemized invoice By the end of the day on Monday, I realized that I could not count on anything that Anthony or Angie told me verbally because every conversation only served to give me the run around and contradict the previous conversation At that point, I decided that we should only communicate via email The back and forth with them demanding immediate payment and me telling them that as soon as I had an itemized invoice for the insurance company I would pay them continued for a few days Anthony did send one proposal via email, which was the proposal that was given to me prior to the work being completed This proposal stated that the box vents had been removed (which they had not) When I asked about this he said that this was just semantics I could not submit this to the insurance company as it would have been fraudulent I told the Roof Doctor over and over that I would pay them once I had an itemized invoice that I could submit to the insurance company so that the insurance company would release the funds They kept refusing to provide an itemized invoice, each time giving me a different response and the run around At the same time I received multiple daily emails and phone calls from them asking when they could come to pick up payment and making threats They started threatening to file a mechanics lien and to assess interest charges These threats started less than a week after the work was completed All that I was asking for prior to paying them was an itemized invoice that I could submit to my insurance company to get the funds for the work released Finally, I involved my insurance company After the insurance company called the Roof Doctor a few times, the funds were released Once the insurance company confirmed that they had the documentation that they needed and funds were released, a check was mailed to the Roof Doctor the next business dayAll of my concerns were due to Anthony’s and misleading statements I find Anthony to be one of the most unscrupulous business people that I have ever dealt with and I would NEVER recommend Roof Doctor to anyoneThe Roof Doctor promises a year warranty on the workmanship When I asked for a copy of the warranty, I was told that the proposal WAS the warranty The proposal was never signed by the Roof Doctor or by me, so I do not have much confidence in their intentions to honor it if there are ever any issues with their work
