My 96 year old mother passed away in October 2017. At that time I contacted 1843 Memorials, Greg came to my home, I chose a headstone for my mother's grave and paid him in full for the marker. At that time I was told that the grave marker would be in place by April 2018. I have contacted this company at least 10 different times for an update, each time Greg apologizes and promises the placement of the marker but it has not happened. It is almost 16 months since my mother passed away and her grave is still unmarked.

Dear ***:
We are writing in response to the above referenced complaint.
We apologize for the length of time it has taken to deliver the cemetery marker for ***. The grave marker was unusual in size and dimensions and not one we keep in stock.
We currently have the marker in our shop and it is being carved now. We are enclosing a copy of the template/ drawing which we made. This marker will be ready within a few days and we anticipate setting the stone in the cemetery within the next 10 days, weather permitting. At that time the existing marker (which we are replacing) will be removed.
We will call *** as soon as the headstone is placed.
Thank you for assistance in bringing this matter to our attention.
Sincerely, Alessi Memorials
This business seems to operate under various names in order to cover up the fact they don't deliver to consumers. Hundreds of others have left reviews on the company(s) website stated that they too have been scammed.
In May 2018(05/24/18), I received an invoice from them because I requested to have my parents headstone engraved with my mothers date of death. I sent the amount they requested $428.00 on 05/29/18. They cashed my check and it was posted to my bank account on 06/4/18. I called them on 07/27 and asked why the work hadn't been done as of yet. They told me it could take 6 months from that date. Its now November 3oth 2018 and still nothing from these people. I would like this company and the company I made check payable to investigated. Check was made payable to *** The company they supposedly took over was - *** who did the engraving and placement of headstone when my dad passed away in 1995. We had NO ISSUES with *** in Upper Darby in 1995.
On April 5th, 2018 after my husband passed away March 1st, 2018 and who was buried on March 8th, 2018 a knock came to my door. A *** from *** came in and he knew of my husbands passing, selling memorial stones. He sat at the table telling me and my daughter that he was also a *** and that was how he came to know of my late husbands passing. After conversation we agreed on 2 separate stones. One for my late husband and I to share and the other for my parents. He stated that footers would be soon put in, and then In September the stones would arrive. I wrote out a check #*** to ***, on 4/5/18 for $3,500. Check *** to *** 6/26/18 for $200.00, Check *** to *** for 237.00 on 7/11/18, and check *** to *** for $2,500 on 10/10/18. After calling and leaving multiple messages to all different numbers they seemed to disappear. I looked at the contract closer and noticed that it was from *** Alessi Memorials at ***, Darby Pa ***, the envelope name was covered that shows *** P.O.Box *** Drexel HIll, PA ***, ***, and lastly *** Upper Darby PA ***. ABC news also did a special on them because they were stealing folks money and never delivering on product. The contract numbers are *** and *** that have yet to be delivered upon. Many more calls to VM, a few returned calls with rude outcomes from the other party, and more broken promises. "give us until Tuesday" then no call.... we call and get more vm then a few days after daily calls and finally stated we are reporting them they call and promise another broken promise and no goods. I am hurt that someone could take advantage of someone that just lost a loved one and is still grieving. I wish the nightmare with whoever this company is never happened.

Dr. *** We would like to respond to the complaint of ***, as well as clear up some confusion regarding her orders. First of all, the individual ***, referenced in ***'s complaint-*** is NOT an employee or representative of our company. He is an independent contractor who installs foundations at *** Cemetery. He has no affiliation with us. *** has 2 orders and following is the status for both. Order# *** Stone for *** Cemetery. Paid in full in October and planned for fall delivery. *** is the manager of this cemetery and per their protocol; all foundations for monuments are installed by ***. At the direction of the cemetery we submitted ***'s check for the foundation (made out to ***) on 8/24/18. After multiple calls to the cemetery and to *** we were told that ***'s check was lost. Now *** is in direct contact with *** and will be paying him directly. He states he will try to get the foundation in soon, weather pending. When the foundation is in, we are prepared to install the monument. Also we told ***, should there be undue delay in installing the foundation, we will place a temporary marker for her. Order #*** Stone for *** & *** Cemetery *** made a deposit for monument in April and another payment in July. To date she has paid half the purchase price of this monument. We initially hoped *** would do both foundations, as this cemetery and above *** Cemetery are 10 minutes apart. *** informed us he only works at *** Cemetery. We will be installing this foundation ourselves shortly and will install the monument soon after.
Sincerely, Alessi Memorials

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: I have not yet even noticed any activity at either cemetery. The paperwork even states early fall/September he was to have both monuments placed. When I do get a call after asking questions about what is going on with the monuments I receive the famous quote "we will be in contact this Saturday or next Tuesday". I also more recently after being told my monuments were already made, have been told they need a description of what they look like...... so this tells me that they have not been made at all. I have also spoke to the caretaker at the cemetery on a few occasions and he stated that no one has inquired about my late husbands place of rest. Also non of which even know the name of *** other than he is on the school board...We frequent both locations which our loves ones lay to rest and nothing has been placed. We are now 10 months out from the date of purchase, which is truly untimely by any standards. I would only at this point be satisfied with the monuments before the New Year, or my money back.We have also contacted the Attorney General's Office which is aware and has placed legal action against the Company(s) involved.

In august of 2017 I paid 2500$ to this memorial place for lettering and a picture to be added to a headstone that was already in place. Its my fathers headstone and needed to add my mothers name and their wedding picture to it because she was killed. I was told it would be done by her birthday november 11th of 2017. It clearly states on the receipt to be done by then as well and I also paid for it to be cleaned. We traveled 2 hours to the cemetary and the stone was still in place with nothing added to it. I went to the office no one was there so I called and left messages. Went again for christmas that year and still nothing was done. Went again for her birthday this year november 11 2018. Her name was finally put on but the wedding picture I paid for was not and the name and decal that was put on looks nothing like they said it would. I also had to clean all the dirt off of it to see it. I called yet again because no one was at the office again. I left many messages and was finally contacted by a customer service woman. She stated that the weather has been an issue and they havent been able to do it. So for over a year the weather is what their blaming for it not being done. I stated I wanted a refund because I paid for her name a ladybug and wedding picture to be added on and it was not. She said she relayed the message. I caled again weeks later she said theyll have it done by the end of this year. I said no I want a refund. She said shell relay the message again. It is now november 20th 2018 and I have not heard back. Ive called left messages and still have not heard back.

They r total ss all u get from them is a run around no head stone that u purchase
Contracted and payed life stone memorials $389.00 to engrave an existing tombstone. After 7 months the work was never done. We have made numerous attempts to resolve to no avail.
Contacted with this business in February of 2017 upon my wife's death. Summer of 2017 for placement of headstone was noted. In October of 2017 I contacted them of the stone still note in place. Tried to blame this on the cemetery. They stated they will work with the cemetery. As of this writing 11/5/2018 the stone is still not in place and I cannot get a call back from these people after numerous calls.
Re: complaint ID *** Dear Ms. O:
We would like to respond to the complaint of ***. We regret the delay he has experienced in receiving his cemetery marker and we are engaged to active steps to resolve the issues surrounding this.
*** cemetery plot is in a section of the cemetery with pre-poured foundations. It has been customary practice for years that we submit the customer's check to the cemetery. In turn, the cemetery then responds, approving the marker and they dig out the foundation. In recent years, changes in cemetery management have often resulted in a failure to notify us regarding approval and a failure to dig out the foundation in readiness for the stone. In *** case, we have made multiple requests of the cemetery to dig out and expose the foundation, but they have failed to do so, telling us they are "too busy.” We have recently dug out the foundation ourselves and have informed ***
Regarding the difficulty this customer has had in reaching us and getting a callback, we regret that he has experienced this difficulty. We do our best to respond to calls as quickly as possible. Members of our management team have attempted to call *** on several occasions. The only number he initially provided us with is most often answered with a recording stating he is not taking messages at this time. We finally emailed him and he provided us with a cell phone.
Currently his cemetery marker is in production, we have readied the foundation ourselves and we anticipate delivery in the near future.
Sincerely
See Attachment.
My Family and I entered into an agreement of $2,642.00 for a headstone to be made for the burial site of my Grandmother, *** in September 2017. My Wife and I made the down payment of $264.20 on September 28, 2017 and paid an amount of $1,027.80 on October 7, 2017 via credit card. The payments were then handled and finished by my Mother *** via cash from November 2017 - July 2018. The company told my family that the headstone would be completely finished by the beginning of October. We called to ask what was going on and they gave us the run around telling us they needed to hear from the cemetery about the foundation and that we would need to call the cemetery. We spoke to the cemetery and then the company told us they need another month. The cemetery staff also told us that the company we are using has been having this issue with many people who they have not completed their work and that they are going out of business. We do not want to be hustled and we can not wait any longer for them to go out of business leaving us scammed. We just want to have our Grandmother properly buried. Please help us!
In December 2017 we paid for my husband’s headstone. We were told it would be installed in the spring. As of October 2018, the stone still has not been placed. We have called on numerous occasions making inquiries as to when the stone would be installed. We have gotten a few responses saying that they did not have the information in front of them to give us a clear answer or that we have had bad weather but never have even been emailed even a picture of the stone to proof. This is totally unacceptable and we don’t want to wait another year to have this installation complete, afterall, they wanted to be paid in full at the time the order was placed but do not keep to their contract of a proper delivery.
On 3/7/18 I met with a representative from *** to arrange to have my fathers information added to the headstone that is already existing at the cemetery. I gave him 2 checks, on for $818.00 for their services and one for $95.00 for the cemetery charges. The stone is still in the ground and not updated. I have tried to contact them numerous times but have only received a call back once which was back in May. I was told, very abruptly, that the work would be done. I have consistently called every number I can find for them, ***, *** and ***, I have left my name and number. I never receive a call back. I even emailed them and did not get a response.
I am writing to request action on a consumer fraud initiated by Greg S, owner of *** headquartered at ***, Philadelphia PA ***.
Mr. S also owns Lifestone by Stefan. In November 2015 the Pennsylvania Attorney General initiated a civil action against Mr. Sand two of his companies, Lifestone by Stefan and *** in Delaware County Common Pleas Court; docket number ***.
This relates to engraving of the gravestone of my mother, ***. I paid Mr. S $282 on April 2, 2017 for engraving the date of death (2-6-2016) on my mother’s existing headstone. On April 7, 2017 I paid Resurrection Cemetery $95 for Cemetery charges per Mr. S’s instructions. Mr. S committed to complete the engraving as “Late Summer”.
Since November I have called Mr. Smultiple times by telephone. Most times he has not returned my calls. In those instances where he has returned the call he has indicated he was delayed by the weather and promised an immediate resolution (namely engraving the headstone promptly). I visited the cemetery this morning and was dismayed to discover Mr. Stefan had not engraved the stone, despite his promise that the engraving would be completed.
There is a pattern of continuous malfeasance by Mr. S and his various companies. Besides the November 2015 litigation, victims of Mr. S’s companies have been featured on local news stations *** and ***. Additionally, consumer reviews on *** and other sources highlight the consistent failure to provide promised and paid for headstones and engraving. There are 133 documented complaints to the Revdex.com against Lifestone by Stefan in the last 3 years. Nine of Mr. S’s companies are listed with the Revdex.com with a grade of “F”. Many of the complaints are subsequent to November 2016
This company contracted to do lettering on a headstone almost a year ago but has not performed this work
I paid $389.00 on 7/27/15 for engraving on a headstone and the work was never done
In July of 2016 I paid the company Lifestone by Gallagher (aka Cartledge Memorials) $1,120 to engrave my mom's memorial stone. It is now December 27, 2017 and stone has not yet been engraved. Excuses, and more excuses from Greg S, the owner. Do not use this company. It is difficult enough to deal with the death of your mom so to also be scammed by the company is unconscionable.
We gave this company $500.00 on April 25,2017 as a down payment to clean our family headstone and to engrave two of our family's name and dates. On August 28, 2017 we paid off the amount of $2028.00. They said this would be completed in September 2017 than we called again in September and they said it would be completed at the end of November of 2017. It is now December 4, 2017 and nothing has been done we have left numerous phone calls to return our money and they will not call back nor refund the money.
The work that the customer complained about was completed to their satisfaction on 12/18/2017. We notified the customer by phone, she checked the work and was very satisfied.
It has been 11 months since I first contracted with this business for engraving on our existing headstone to add the name and date of my grandson, who passed away on October 10, 2016. The existing headstone is located at *** Cemetary in Broomall, PA, and I contracted with Gallagher Memorials in late October 2016 and then paid $395 to them ($95 for a reported cemetary charge, and $300 down payment for the engraving). I have called three or four times since them, and each time am told it will be another month or two until them can get to schedule the engraving. They are now not returning my calls, and I have just now found out of the 'F' Revdex.com rating on numerous related companies with the same owners. I am distraught, as I am 87 years old and on a very fixed income, and feel clearly that this business is not reputable as it is now nearly a year since I contracted with them and they have not delivered the promised service, not to mention are not returning my calls or providing any answers. I feel like I have been stolen from--first by losing my grandson, now in losing $395 which I cannot afford to lose. Help me, please! Thank you.....
Company was paid $1107 on 11/16/2016 to inscribe an inscription to a previously placed headstone at the *** Cemetery located in Philadelphia. Company never performed the work and I am unable contact anyone at the company. I have left multiple voicemail messages for them to return my call.
My loved one passed away in November 2016. I ordered a memorial stone for him on 04052017.I have been calling and emailing since mid-June. Over and Over again . I once spoke with the answering service . No call . Now they will not even pick up.I have not gotten any sort of response.Originally I was seeking a progress report. Now I wish to have a refund as family members are quite distraught about this whole situation. The name of the Company on the receipt is *** - Same address as the one for LifeStone same phone etc. Really a very sad thing to do to people.I dealt with Greg S himself. He actually came out to my house himself. Little did I know at the time that he was running a bad operation just to get my money. I should have checked out the company on Revdex.com BEFORE writing my check but I did not. Now I cannot get any information from them at all. I would like to cancel this order and get someone more reputable to build this loving monument. Thank you for your help .
