The Holistic Point

Review: I began treatment at The Holistic Point in March of 2014 to address some persistent lower back and hamstring pain issues that I was having at the time. Upon evaluation by the staff, I was informed that I would need a year of treatment to fully resolve my pain issues and was urged to sign a contract. I was told that I could cancel the contract at any time. When I signed the contract I didn't understand that if I terminated it early there would be a substantial penalty. I mistakenly believed that it was a pay-as-you-go arrangement. Had I understood that it wasn't, I wouldn't have signed a contract. On 1 September, I provided The Holistic Point written notice that I wanted to terminate the contract. My reasons for doing so were several: 1) the monthly fee a lot for me to manage financially; 2) the twice weekly appointments were becoming increasingly difficult for me to keep as my work duties had changed, and that in turn affected whether or not I could get there by 5:45, the latest they could see me; 3) I was going to be traveling over the coming month and would not be able to make appointments; 4) they insisted I "make up" missed appointments which only added stress; 5) I had reached a plateau and was feeling somewhat better; and 6) the stress imposed by having to make twice weekly visits had become greater than the benefit derived from the treatments. In late September, The Holistic Point sent me a bill for nearly $2,000 for services that I had been led to believe I had already paid for with my not-insubstantial (in excess of $350) monthly payments. I am concerned that The Holistic Point intentionally and deceptively urged me to sign a contract, knowing that the odds were good that I would terminate early. I believe I should have been told about the penalty for early cancellation up front. One of the reasons that I terminated the contract was that it was causing financial strain--had I known that termination would cause yet more financial strain I never would have signed that contract.Desired Settlement: I would like The Holistic Point to cancel the balance due.
