My Son was admitted to the Halton School and attended it for a few days. During my son's brief time at the Halton School, his behavior regressed and none of his therapists could understand why. It turns out, that although it was completely against the Halton School's policy manual, they admitted a child with severe behavioral issues that they were NOT able to properly accommodate or control. In the few days my 11-year-old Son attended the Halton school, he was: slammed up against a wall and told he was a (f).... moran for believing in God, exposed to a conversation about how the boy with behavioral issues has sex with his dog, etc. I came to pick my son up one day (which ended up being his last day) and found the above-mentioned child threatening my son and shouting extremely vulgar profanities at him while TWO teachers could not control him or reroute my child so he wouldn't need to be exposed to this. Ultimately the child shouted profanities at me. The Halton School chose NOT to reprimand the child or remove him from the school which was acting in violation of their own policy manual. My Son was scarred from the events and we had no choice but to remove him from the school because it was a mentally and physically unsafe environment. It should be noted that the Halton School is a private school and we met with Mrs. D several times to make sure our child would be a good fit. We sold out home and relocated to the area for the sole purpose of him attending the Halton School. In a nutshell, the Halton School violated its own policy manual and endangered my son's mental and physical safety. I have approached Mrs. B Dale H and James Secuda about this both via email and mail and have received no response.
Refund Refund of tuition monies paid into the Halton School which will not be nearly enough to cover all of the money spent on therapy to help my Son cope with what he was exposed to at the school.
A legally binding contract was signed on June 27, 2019 for tuition and enrollment for the XXXX-XXXX school year in the amount of $22,475.
School began in August. The staff at The Halton School observed behavior issues with Ms. son on day one. There were multiple conversations and emails regarding inappropriate behaviors by her child. The school provided support and recommended interventions, though behaviors continued. The staff at The Halton School observed the *** child's physical and verbal and aggression towards other students, which continually interrupted the learning environment.
The ***'s child was particularly focused on one specific student and continually provoked him, including threating to "fight him" multiple times. The constant provocation by the ***'s child culminated in an incident of inappropriate verbal behavior by the other student in the presence of Ms. and her child on September 30. During the incident, all students were physically safe, no one was at risk of injury. Consequences were implemented, however, in accordance with FERPA regulations, The Halton School does not comment on student records (including behavioral consequences). School personnel continues to maintain authority over the school environment and consequences for inappropriate behavior.
The *** family chose to formally withdrawal their son on October 1, 2019 and asked to be released from the contract. The Board of Directors agreed to release the family from the remaining 8 tuition payments ($17, 580), which were owed upon withdrawal per their signed contract. The school retained only the August and September payments.
Ms. contacted The Halton School again on November 16, 2019 requesting a refund of all monies paid. The response from the Board of Directors was that they agreed to release the ***'s from their contractual obligation for future payments, but did not agree to refund monies paid.
