Unbelievable is all I can say. Terrific job by John
John is very patient and takes the time to explain what he does and why. He?s also very knowledgeable and passionate about the work he does.It was the many positive reviews on his web page and the good reviews with the Revdex.com that led to me to finally find a good trainer to help me with my dogs.
Lack of information regarding length of training and cost of training. He provided none of the training that he claims on his website.
The Dog's Listener came to our house on Thursday, *** @ 4:30. We had several e-mail and phone messages before that time. Time frames and prices are not listed on his website. When I asked about pricing, he gave me the price for 1 hour, never indicating that the training would be 4 times that. His website states that "My come command is the only one you'll get where your dog will come running with vigor on the first command." When my dogs were in my back yard and I asked him how to make them come, he walked outside and said "sometimes you have to go get them". His website states "If you have a dog that barks and charges the door when the doorbell rings, I will show you on my first try, without saying a word or touching the dog physically in any way , that I can have him backed up 6 ft. from the door, with no barking." My dog barks when one of us comes down the hall from the bedroom to the living room. When this happened, he said "oh that's not bad". He gave us a ridiculous method of feeding the dogs, including pretending that we are eating something while preparing their bowls, and scooping the food with out hands instead of a scoop. I told him that I wanted just the puppy training, and would like to incorporate my other dogs later. He said it would work best to work with all 3 dogs at the same time. My puppy had never been on a leash yet (she was 3 months old). He showed us how to walk our older 2 dogs, all the while yanking them to stay behind him, and instructing us to do the same. My dogs always wear a harness, and he wouldn't let them wear their harness, only their collar, so they were being yanked by their necks the whole time. They were very scared and confused. He did no walk training with the puppy. He brought no training treats, he used ours. He kept calling ***, who is our deceased dog. He kept calling our female dogs "him". He seemed to linger and take up time that was unnecessary. If I would have known that this "training" was going to last almost 4 hours and cost $***, I never would have done it. I learned nothing from this person, except how to poke my dog in the neck and yank them on a leash. I am extremely disappointed with this service. His response to my *** rating was rude and immature and completely unprofessional. His website claims "Dogs stay much longer and much more comfortably with my technique over all others. My come command is the only one you'll get where your dog will come running with vigor on the first command." He provided no sit, stay, come training. His website claims "My unique time tested method has given me a 98% success rate in just one session." When asked about this, he said that he doesn't follow up with his customers, he just expects they will come to him if they are not happy". Reading his *** reviews, it is clear that much more than 2% are unhappy with his service.
I would like a full refund because he did none of the things that he claims on his website. Also because I brought him into my house based on unknown facts like it would take almost 4 hours and cost $***. He gave me the price for 1 hour. His reply to my *** review said 4 out of 2,000 cases cost this or less. When asking about price, this information should have been provided.

I just received this complaint today, the reason for it's tardiness. The training described on the website is painted with a broad brush, no specifics. As each Dog is an individual
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The fact remains that he didn't do the things he claims to be able to do. He simply did not provide the training that he boasts on his website.
My initial response to this complaint was very thorough and addressed all the clients complaints. First and foremost, I feel very sorry for her and mostly her dogs, they will go through a lifetime of anxiety and stress. Client could have easily resolved her disappointment with one simple call to me. I would have been right back over for free, if she was still not satisfied a refund would have been given, though that's never happened. In order to get an appointment with The Dogs Listener, you must fill out a questionnaire on my website, then I call back with a free consultation in which I spend much time if needed, in that conversation I tell how much the cost per hour it will be, price varies for each dog based on difficulty, and the expertise and experience it takes to resolve all the Dog's issues. I can only speculate on a time estimate as I will be there as long as I can to be 100% confident that when I have left they have all the tools and knowledge to be overly satisfied with the results and all are told this is something you have to work on with your dog - rarely weeks and rarely over 4 months, statistically I tell them my avg time for sessions last about 31/2 hours. Based on the consult I arrive at a price. In client's initial Revdex.com complaint client said we had many calls back and forth she was very cordial, we had great conversations I was much looking forward to this case. In the session I tell my clients at least three times to call right away and anytime if they are struggling with anything at all.I never get call.98% success rate with one session for over 25 years. By the way your profile of my business mistakenly says I've been in business 10 years. It is over 25. In regards to client's desired resolution the claim "unknown facts and it would take almost 4 hours and cost $***.His reply to my *** review said 4 out of 2,000cases cost this or less" No, 4 of 2,000 of all cases cost much more than this as a rule. In client's initial complaint stating all I learned was how to poke my dog in the neck and yank on them on a leash. If that were true what was it had I spent almost 4 hrs, doing? Another way client could have resolved her issues if what they say is true, why not stop me and the training after 2 hours.Instead client went through entire session acknowledging the immediate changes, was most impressed with the fact the dogs were walking so well, no more pulling, no complaints about "yanking". And why did client happily write the check with words of appreciation. If you look at the reviews on " The Dogs Listener" page you will see very Glowing appreciative reviews. All were voluntary, I have never had the need to request reviews. You will also see 3 negative reviews, none of whom were my client's and were just personal attacks, not one word about my training, except this complainant who posted 3 days after the session, and was amazingly replied to in agreement with 3 people within 3 hours of her post - an obvious enlistment of help from friends to pile on. Client's post was much like initial Revdex.com complaint, first things addressed were personal - I referred to one of the 3 dogs as the wrong gender, called one of the 3 by wrong name, and didn't bring any treats. I addressed those in my original response. Though anyone reading the *** post would find it ridiculous and give no credence to it, I take it very personally. I can't read her mind nor will I judge. You the Revdex.com are the judge. Did they want a free session, were they "unteachable", I won't hazard a judgement. Since this was largely a personal attack if you really want to be thorough go on *** page The Dogs Listener and look at my posts if you question my character you will find I don't promote my business I post things that will help people with their dogs, give them longer lives and give tips so they won't need me. One of the *** reviews proves and directly describes how I helped them so much on the phone things improved so quickly and dramatically they have postponed their session. MY personal *** page will also back up my personal character, I am a helper you will find 90% of my posts are intended to help people with their struggles, or are informative. I am sorry that the Revdex.com has to spend so much time on investigating such a derisive complaint, which I should take most of the blame for as I have responded with way too much defense of myself but that is due to the deep passion I have for my work and with an estimated 2,000 very appreciative clients whose voice is not heard. My thanks for your consideration with all sincerity and regards, *** - The Dogs Listener
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My dogs are happy and very good dogs. They are not anxious or stressed. There was no reason for me to call him, as HE was the problem. I don't want the problem to fix the problem, that doesn't even make sense. There was never an indication of longevity of time. I would never have scheduled a 4 hour appointment at 5:30 p.m., never! My husband goes to bed at 8:00. He didn't eat dinner until 7:00 that night, because neither of us knew what was going on. I didn't ask him to leave, because I was so confused and didn't want to be rude. It's like watching a bad movie ... you keep hoping it's going to get better, and then it's over, and you think "what just happened?" It took me 3 days to file a claim because I wanted to be sure that I was doing the right think, and not knee-jerk react out of frustration. I did not happily write a check for $***, I was crying inside. He never gets calls because people don't want him to come back. That does not translate to 98% success rate. None of my words are personal, they are all facts. I did not want a free session, I wanted individual training for my puppy. I am not unteachable. I have very well behaved dogs based on my parenting alone. What is his "exclusive method" of getting dogs to come? He never showed me. He did say sometimes you have to go get them, as we both walked out into the yard, and I picked up my puppy! He showed me the doorbell method, but he did not teach me how to get my dog not to bark. My puppy had never been on a leash, that is true. She was 3 months old, and wasn't fully immunized yet. She's not supposed to go anywhere until she's fully immunized. Nobody held the puppy's leash? Of course we did! We walk our dogs with harnesses, because they can slip out of collars, or if they pull it's bad for their neck. Yank and tug are synonyms ... they mean the same thing! I didn't need to learn how to walk my older dogs, I was looking for training for my puppy! HE is the one who said he forgot to bring treats, it wasn't about me wanting or expecting him to. I never corrected him when he called ***, and we definitely never laughed about it. He says that my dogs will be deprived of happiness for the rest of their lives, that's ridiculous! He said he doesn't believe in kennelling dogs. I kennel my dogs. He said my dogs are very well behaved and not typical of kennelled dogs. Bottom line is that he taught me nothing, and I would like a full refund. It was a complete waste of mine and my husband's time, and we were both pretty upset about it when it was over. I am not hiding behind my computer screen, I am using resources which are available to me to resolve a problem I have. Do you think that if I called him and asked for a refund, he would give it to me? No, he would offer me more "free" services, which would be pointless. Thank you for your time.
