I wish to respond with this for the Comet Tavern:
New Year's Eve is our busiest night of the yearThere are so many people at the bar getting the bartender's attention at the same time it can be overwhelmingThis night we were at consistent capacity and the bar was incredibly fullOur service
standards are to help everyone as fast we can in the order that we see them approach the barThe reason that this woman did not receive an itemized guest check when her friend did is because she presented her credit card to the bartender without asking for her checkWhen someone asks for their check, the bartender or server will print them a Guest Check that allows them to review items and the total before providing a card to pay the billBy providing her card on arrival to the bar counter, it is standard etiquette that this woman was implying she was closing out and was not requesting the Guest CheckThat is how our bartenders approach all situations, and did not single her out or try to hide the bill
We are very sorry that she felt like she was being ignored or a burdenThis is not the case at allWe want every customer to feel that we are transparent so that they return! We are one of the most popular neighborhood bars in our area because of our warm, genuine service and good pricesSometimes, on busy nights, it does require a lot of patience if you receive your close out slip and to get the bartender's attention again because you do not fully understand itThis is so because the bartender assumes that when you indicate you are ready to close out she can move on to the other customers demanding her to serve themThe customer would need to wait another round of service to get back to her
As far as a refund the night of, we were so busy that it would not have been possible to stop service to the rest of our customers to facilitate thisWhen she called back the next business day for the refund, our manager told her she would get into contact with the Accounting DepartmentThis is where we dropped the ballThat Monday, Comet hosted a very large and stressful event that was a big opportunity for our businessThis woman's request slipped through the cracks as we prepared with all hands on deckI am mortified that we did not follow up with her request with a refund with our accountantsI have since reached out to her to remedy this situation
