A foreign substance was put in the oven, resulting in heavy smoke and toxic fumes.
On the evening of November 20, 2018 I turned on the larger oven of my dual oven stove. It had not been used in approximately three months due to my travel schedule. Upon heating, toxic fumes and smoke filed the house as if a chemical was burning. I have never experienced any issues with this oven prior to this date. Open windows and fans had to be used to clear the smoke and fumes that burned my eyes and throat and made one of my pets ill. As the oven cooled with the door open, a liquid substance dripped onto the floor. After clearing the smoke, I attempted to wipe out the oven with water which resulted in a foamy substance forming in the oven. The next morning I contacted The Cleaning Authority, as their employees clean my home every other week and were the only other people having access to my kitchen appliances. I planned to ask them to send someone over to clean the substance from the oven so that I could prepare Thanksgiving dinner, but was told that they did not clean ovens and did not put anything in the oven. I was told that there must be something wrong with my oven, although obviously an oven cannot put a toxic substance in itself. I have had issues with The Cleaning Authority's employees using cleaners that caused issues with counter tops and other surfaces in the past, but either the employee or I could rectify the situation and there was no smoke or toxic fumes involved in the prior situation. I do not appreciate The Cleaning Authority subjecting my home to smoke and toxic fumes, insisting that their unsupervised employees (who are generally different with each visit) could not be responsible and not offering to rectify the situation or even apologize for the extra work they have created for me.
To educate this business that there are consequences associated with property damage so other customers and potential customers can be made aware before allowing The Cleaning Authority into their homes.
I am very sorry that there has been an issue with the oven in your home and am sorry also that it affected your Thanksgiving holiday plans causing you extra work and frustration. I apologize for the delay in responding as we have been out of town and just returned.
When we were looking at different business franchises to open, we were attracted to The Cleaning Authority partly because being environmentally friendly was part of its core values. All the products that our teams use is either "Green Seal Certified" or are rated as environmentally friendly. If a customer asks us to use anything other than our "green" products, we require a damage liability release form. We do this to try and avoid what it sounds like has happened in your home.
Our "green" products are not strong enough to clean the inside of ovens. Products that have been designed for oven cleaning can be extremely dangerous and toxic. Because of the danger to our customers, their pets and our staff, our teams are prohibited from opening and/or cleaning the inside of ovens.
With all this being said, I am truly baffled what has happened with your oven. If somehow, we have done something that has caused this, I apologize. I wish that we had been able to send an inspector out to see first hand what was happening and maybe be able to do something about it. I am sorry also if our office staff did not communicate as well as they should have in our absence.
It is unfortunate that this has happened during the holidays and I am sorry for the extra work and frustration this has caused you. We are very sorry to lose a long term customer like you.
