Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
It wasn't even really a resolution. They just stated the facts...that I had to buy two beers I didn't want in order to be allowed to buy the ones I wanted....which is exactly what happened. But they did not propose any action or admit that this practice is not legal. Their response sounded more like an advertisement for their business, instead of admitting wrongdoing or explaining how they will make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else again.
Instead of saying they are "sorry I had a bad experience", I guess I would just like them to admit what they did is not allowed, and that they will not do this in the future.
Regards,
[redacted]
Review: I went there yesterday (4/1/15) to buy a very hard to find beer that they had in stock. This beer (called [redacted]) sells out the same day and is nearly impossible to find otherwise. I've been looking for it for months. They keep it behind the register because there is a one-bottle limit per customer. So I went to the register and asked for a [redacted], and another similar beer by the same brewery called Duet. The guy helping me said that if I wanted those two, I also needed to buy the Stout. I told him no one in my house likes stout, that I just wanted the two IPAs. He told me that I needed to help them out; that the brewery sends them these other beers that aren't as popular, and they are hard to sell, so if I wanted the [redacted] and Duet, I needed to buy this other beer as well. I again said I didn't want the stout, but if he was making me buy another beer, I'd rather take the other one he had on the counter, another IPA called Pure Hoppyness. He then moved that bottle over to the other three and said if you want that one, now you need to get all four. He was basically forcing me to buy two beers I really didn't want, in order to allow me to buy the two I really wanted. I asked if I could just get three, but he said I now needed to buy all four. Obviously he didn't force me to make the purchase, but having waited months to find this beer, having loaded my kids in the car and driven 30 minutes to this store, I really didn't want to leave without what I came there for, so I bought all 4. I complained about the experience to a friend later, and he explained that it is illegal for them to force you to buy something if you want something else.He did the exact same thing to the guy in front of me as well. He also asked for [redacted] and Duet, and was forced to also buy the Red Ale, even after protesting that he didn't like Red Ale.Desired Settlement: I'm not sure I could get a refund for the two I really didn't want, because I've since given them away to friends. If I can get a refund without having to return the bottles, that would be great. Otherwise, I just wanted the Revdex.com to know about this store, because now that I've told a couple people about it, I've heard many similar stories, and multiple people have told me about how "shady" that store can be.
