Tates Tax Service has reviewed the details of the complaint that the Revdex.com received on our firm and responds accordingly. The Customer (husband and wife) involved had their tax returns prepared by our office in March 2016, The returns were electronically transmitted to IRS and the
State of MarylandOur office discussed with the couple Pros and Cons of filing Married Filing Joint (MFI) vsMarried Filing Separate (MFS)After this review the Customer choose MFJ as they would receive more tax credits/deductions therefore receiving a higher refund as a result of the benefits received by filing a Joint ReturnA standard practice in our Tax Firm is to have our customers sign documents that acknowledge information regarding refund amounts, deposit accounts and other information directly connected to the tax return that has been preparedOur office has these documents that were signed by both husband and wife that acknowledge that ONE federal refund will be received and ONE state refund will be received as a result of the filing status elected-Married Filing Joint. The Customer received its Federal Refund from IRS as scheduled, however, the State of Maryland, specifically the Comptroller of Maryland sent the Customer a bill with a balance due because the State failed to issue the Military income Exclusion credit to the husband - who is active duty militaryThe Customer brought the letter (bill) to our office and we prepared a written response to the State of Maryland on their behalf disputing that there was a balance due and pointing out the credit that the Customer was eligible for that would generate a REFUND for the CustomerThe State of Maryland more specifically the Comptroller of Maryland in turn sent the Customer a letter stating that the "Letter of Dispute" had been received and it would take to weeks to review the informationThe weeks expired on September 28, and the husband returned to our office and we once again provided assistance to the Customer by calling the State of Maryland - Comptroller Office to check the status of the adjustment and get an update on the refund due,Tates Tax Service prides itself on being a Customer Service Centered organization and during the period between March and September we met with the husband on several (approximately on or occasions) to provide assistance and support to get the credit that they were entitled toOur office made every effort to assist the customer on the phone and in personIn fact, we provided additional support to them to correct an oversight that occurred at the State levelAll of our additional support and effort was provided to the Customer at no additional charge
