I have recieved a letter from you regarding a customer complaint against me for taking $37.98 from his card. He bought 3 items from me and I made a mistake ringing up the purchase on the register. I found that I had overcharged him and voided the transaction on the register. Due to the...
software of our system it takes a short period of time for the money to be credited back to his card, this was not my intent, like he's claiming, that is the way his credit card works, I have no control over that. He said he still wanted to buy the soda and candy but since I made a mistake with his card I told him I would give him in-store credit until the card was credited back and he could pay me later afterwards. I informed him that it would take 24-48 hours for the card to recredit his account, and that he could check it to verify that the money was put back on his card. I took no money from him during the transaction since I voided the entire thing immediately. I am enclosing a receipt to show that I voided the transaction, and I also gave the customer a copy of the receipt at the time of the incident. After accepting the in-store credit to help him the best I could he
returned later in the day to get another item on credit saying he would pay me back in full for everything when the money was placed back on his card. A couple days later I had not seen him in the store to pay me back for the credit so when I saw him walking by my store I asked him about it and he said he would be in the next morning by 9 AM to pay me what he owed me. That evening when he hadnt paid me for his purchases asked him about it again when I saw him in my parking lot, at which time he paid me for his purchases. It was at that time that he told me he had tiled a complaint to your services, which I dont understand why he did since I did everything I could to correct the mistake, I was not the one holding his money like he claims, it was his bank and his card. He should be able to prove/disprove that the money was returned to his card, I have proven that I voided on my end, there was nothing more that I could do after that. There was never at any point in time an intent to cheat the customer or steal anything from him. It was an honest mistake that I canceled the moment I realized I did it. If you need any further information from me you may mail me or fax me at ###-###-#### and I will do everything in my power to assist you in your investigation.
