Complaint ID [redacted] To Whom It May Concern, Seldovia Village Tribe Health & Wellness (SVTHW) operates a medical, dental and wellness clinic in Homer, Alaska. As such, we do not confirm or deny identification of patients. However, in response to the complaint to the Revdex.com...
referenced above, we can indicate that we operate under policies, procedures and protocols that are approved by our governing body, the Seldovia Village Tribe. SVT policies, procedures and protocols prescribe how we provide services, and expectations of staff and patients. The complaint in hand is related to our facility's practices pertaining to Child Supervision in the Dental Office, Missed Dental Appointments, and Discharging of Difficult Patients. Our dental office requires that parents/guardians of children under the age of 18 be present in the SVTHW facility for the duration of the dental treatment appointment. Our practice does not permit the parent/guardian to leave the premise while a child is under treatment or when other children would be unsupervised in the waiting room. Likewise, the Missed Dental Appointments policy is intended to insure maximum access to care for all patients. Patients who repeatedly miss scheduled appointments, or cancel without notice, may be limited to same day or walk-in scheduling. Per the Discharge of Difficult Patients policy, SVTHW may choose to terminate its relationship with a patient for a number of specific reasons, including: • Repetitive rudeness or belligerent behavior toward office staff or other patients. • Posing a safety risk, as determined by the SVT Health & Well ness staffs discretion. • Repeatedly failing to keep appointments or refusing follow up care that could lead to or results in negative clinical consequences. • Drug abuse or violation of pain management • Refusing to follow recommendations given y the provider for the patient's care. • Unwillingness to pay. • Pending litigation against SVT Health & Well ness by the patient Discharging a patient from care is not a decision that is made lightly by our management, but on some rare occasions it must be done to protect our employees and patients, or to maximize patient access to care. Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the customer complaint referenced above.
