This title company was selected by our bank to handle a closing on our new home. We had a standard contract with the seller and planned to close in 30 days. Both parties didn't use a realtor but had hired attorneys to look out for our best interest. For a week or 10 day before the scheduled closing date, our attorney asked to see the paperwork for the closing and nothing was provided to him. The person who was handling our closing went on vacation and didn't even tell anyone in the office that this needed handled.
On the day of the closing, there was a lot of back and forth with our attorney, the title company, the bank and the seller. Every document was incorrect and 10 minutes before the closing we were told it wouldn't happen. Needless to say, no one was happy. These weren't just minor errors, people's names were wrong, pay off amounts for mortgages were incorrect and no one seemed to be able to get it together. Both parties were asked more than once to sign incorrect paperwork and both refused.
The closing was then rescheduled for the following day and we were assured everything would be worked out by 1pm. The closing didn't happen until 3:30pm due to more incorrect paperwork and back and forth with attorneys and the bank. My husband missed an entire day off work causing and we had to pay our sitter for additional time as well. We also overpaid at closing after a lot of back and forth about the down payment amount.
I have never dealt with a company that handled things as poorly as Superior Title and I am extremely disappointed that the happy occasion of buying a home was tarnished by this mess. Not once did anyone from the company apologize or even attempt to explain why they turned this into such a mess.
I realize in the end that it all worked out and we were able to close, but the loss in pay, frustration and grief this caused to the seller and buyer was ridiculous.
