Suniga's Roofing & Construction Reviews (%countItem)

Suniga's roofing overcharged us for whatever reason. An oral quote of 675.00 was issued by Tony S. There was no agreement signed before repair job. We weren't even given an itemized contract for the amount charged. Enclosed is a copy of the bill not contract. Also pictures of the work done which only took about one hour and a half, (if that). I asked for a justification of the charge-none was given. My husband and I felt we were being gouged. The owner of this company is Eddie S who never called to resolve this matter.

Suniga's Roofing & Construction Response

On or about Monday, July 31, 2017 we received a call from Mr. and Mrs., whom are one of our regular customers, during this phone call, Mrs. *** was calling to report a roof leak from the roof, Mr. Tony R -Estimator who received the phone call asked Mrs. if the leak was from the previous work that was done on their home, Mrs. replied as she did not know. Mr. Tony R scheduled an appointment for Tuesday, August 1, 2017 to go out to their home and inspect the roof conditions. Mr. Tony R-Estimator on or about Tuesday morning, August 1, 2017 went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. to address the roof leak that was reported. As per Mr. Tony R -Estimator he was greeted by Mr. and Mrs. as they showed him the roof leak that was coming thru the roof over the side patio roof deck area. Mr. Tony R-Estimator proceeded to go up the roof to investigate the roof leak location. Mr. Tony R's findings and observation of the existing conditions and cause of the roof leak over the side patio roof noted and confirmed that the roof leak was being caused by the existing #90lb. mineral cap sheet over the low slope roof area, where as the entire east roof edge had been lifted, by high windy conditions which had previously occurred in the past weeks. It was observed and noted that no work was previously done by our crew in this section of the roof. During the site visit on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 by Mr. Tony R-Estimator getting off the roof, went back to speak with Mr. and Mrs. regarding the roof conditions and to discuss the cause of the leak. Mr. Tony R specified to Mr. and Mrs. that the cause of the leak was not coming from area that was repaired previously, but was coming in from the existing #90lb. mineral cap sheet roof membrane that had been damaged by high winds, which is now causing the top of the roof over the edge to lift during winding conditions, and if it is raining, moisture is entering thru the lifted section of the roof. At this time, Mr. Tony R-Estimator took pictures of the loose #90lb. mineral cap sheet on the east roof edge and showed them to Mr. and Mrs.. After looking at the pictures of the existing conditions, and cause of the leak, Mr. and Mrs. asked Mr. Tony R "how much is this going to cost to repair and fix ?" Mr. Tony R-Estimator told Mr. and Mrs. that he will discuss the circumstances with Mr. S, and he would be getting back to them with an cost estimate. It was mentioned and said by Mr. and Mrs. that is was very important the we get back to them soon, since they did not want to experience any more leakage in the that area, it was then when Mr. Tony R told Mr. and Mrs. that he would get back to them by the end of the day with an cost estimate for the roof repair work. After leaving the home of Mr. and Mrs., Mr. Tony R-Estimator returned to the office where he proceeded with calculating the roof estimate. After reviewing the scope of work, and discussing the existing conditions as specified on the "Summary" section of our proposal/contract with Mr. Tony R-Estimator, we calculated the aforementioned cost of $675.00 to expedite and complete the scope of work specified. Around 4:00 pm Tuesday, August 1, 2017 Mr. Tony R-Estimator called Mr. and Mrs. to tell them the scope of work and tell them the cost of the roof repair as he told them he would let them know by the end of the work day, Mrs. *** answered the phone, during the conversation with Mrs. ***, Mr. Tony R-Estimator explained the scope of work as to how the work would be done and told her the roof repair would cost $675.00, he also mentioned to her, " due to the high percentage of rain in the forecast we could accommodate to perform the roof work within the following days if they accepted our proposal, and agreed to our price". Mrs. *** said she would discuss our conversation and price with her husband Mr. ***, Mr. Tony R-Estimator said "Okay, that would be fine, let us know what you decide". On Tuesday, August 1, 2017 around 4:45 pm we received a phone call from Mrs. *** telling us to go ahead and proceed with with work, Mr. Tony R-Estimator told Mrs. that we would provide them with our Proposal/Contract via email, and we would schedule the work for Wednesday, August 2, 2017 and our crew would be there in the morning. On Wednesday, August 2, 2017 we arrived to the home of Mr. and Mrs. around 8:30 am, we were greeted by Mr. and Mrs., prior to engaging in any work, Mr. and Mrs. wanted us to show them exactly what was going to be done, we set up our ladder so we could show them where and what we were exactly going to do, Mr. *** got up on the roof with us, I and Mr. Tony R showed Mr. *** the affected area, and explained to him exactly what had to be do to fix the roof edge part of the roof, we also mentioned to him that we would have install a metal flashing onto the adjacent low slope roof section, as we had previously done on the upper section of the patio roof, as this would water proof the entire adjoining metal roof to the dwelling. After explaining to Mr. *** of what was going to be done, we got off the roof, and went to talk to Mrs. ***, and explained to her what was going to be done, at this time Mr. and Mrs. gave us authorization to proceed with the work, as so we proceeded to do the work. Our crew completed the scope of work around 11:30 am. Mr. Tony R-Estimator called Mr. and Mrs. to inform them that the work had been completed and he would be coming out to their home to collect the payment for work performed and completed. Mr. Tony R-Estimator arrived to the home of Mr. and Mrs. around 4:00 pm, he gave them a copy of the Proposal/Contract and the invoice for the aforementioned work completed. Mr. and Mrs. requested a discount at this time, Mr. Tony R-Estimator called me regarding the request of Mr. and Mrs. wanting a discount on the total amount due, I told Mr. Tony R-Estimator the price given was figured out accordingly to the scope of work, and Mr. Mrs. had agreed to the price given to them. After Mr. Tony R informed Mr. and Mrs. that the price is what is on the proposal/contract, they proceeded to make a check in the amount of $675.00. On Thursday morning, August 3, 2017 we received a phone call from Mrs. *** again asking for a discount on the amount they had paid for the work performed on their home, we replied back with our response via email. Customer Response

Complaint: ***

I reject the response from Suniga's Roofing because:1. Tony R-Estimator came out the afternoon the call was placed. He immediately went up on the roof to assess the situation and while he was on the roof, he quickly made a call to his brother-the owner to discuss the "scope of work" I overheard him say that the price was going to be $675.00, in fact he said "I'm just going to tell them that it's going to be $675.00."

2. He then (Tony) took pictures of the area that was to be repaired from his cellphone, came down and showed them to my husband, explaining what needed to be done. Tony also stated that the roof was not done right to begin with.

3. There was no mention of the fact that the leak was coming from the so-called existing #90 lb mineral cap. What Tony had said was that the leak was caused by the fact that the additional roof was not attached correctly, so they would have to do alot work because it needed to be reattached so that water won't leak through.

4. My husband and I told Tony that we felt the amount of $675.00 was alot and that we would think about it. Tony R response was a shrug.

5. I also asked if Eddie S would consider a military or senior discount Tony said he would ask him, and that he thought that his brother would comply.

6. Prior to an agreement, I did call Tony R-Estimator and asked if he talked to his brother about a veteran or senior discount. Tony covered the mouthpiece of his phone, mumbled something quickly; came back on the line and said that the supposed discount was already included in the price.

7. At no time was there an estimation contract produced. We didn't hear anymore from Tony R-Estimator until Wednesday, August 2, 2017, without notice the Suniga Roofing company arrived to our residence a little before 9 am. At that time, Eddie S was present.

8. Tony R-Estimator and Eddie S both went up the roof. At that time, I approached Eddie S about the cost and he said "what was needed to be done was to roll the part of the roof that required repairing completely back and fixed the attached part right, this time".

9. Tony R-Estimator and Eddie S-Owner both left to retrieve materials needed. They left 2 men to do the job. These 2 individuals sat and waited for the materials to be brought.

10. When both Tony and Eddie left, I too left to attend bible study, leaving my husband to oversee the "scope of work". I left at 9 am and when the "scope of work" was completed, my husband called me back home. Upon arriving, the two men who performed the repair, were both sitting and waiting to be picked.

11. The "scope of work" in question was done in less than 30 minutes, not what was stated by Tony R-Estimator.Okay, my husband is an 87 year old Korea and Vietnam veteran who has trouble hearing. I felt that both the owner and the estimator took advantage of his age and the fact that they think he has money. My husband went along with Suniga's roofing because he trusted these individuals and thought they were dealing in good faith. When Tony brought the contract over, I refused to pay it but my husband was adamant because he thought that if we didn't pay the total amount, the Suniga's Roofing company would put a lien on our place.Last year, I had this same company do a fascia replacement and was given a contract for the amount of $1800.00 before the work was to take place. It took them a week to do it and by the time the work was finished, we were charged another $1100.00. Now I'm wondering if this wasn't also a case of swindling money based on income.I made a call to Tony R after the job and payment was complete and asked if they could send me an itemized bill but all I was told was that the contract was it.On Thursday Sept. 28, I hired another individual-Mr. *** to fix a leak on my roof. While on the roof, I asked him to look at the job done by Suniga's Roofing and asked him how much the job in question was worth and he said $50.00.I told him what we had to pay and to whom and he said that I should go to Angie's list to report the Suniga's roofing. If nothing gets resolved, then I guess I will go to the media.PS. There were no materials to clean up and the owner's son Michael came to pick up the men. The amount of bond used was approximately 12 to 18 inches wide and 11 ft. long. Mr. *** also stated that silicon used was not the right one.

I hope you all are doing great, I'am responding to the aforementioned complaint and your concerns regarding the roofing services provided by Suniga's Roofing Company on your home. As previously described in our response letter dated September 27, 2017 we were called out to your home, responding to a roof leak from your roof, as with every in house Customer we responded immediately to address the situation to determine the cause of the leak since we had worked on your roof in the past, it was described and determined the cause of the roof leak was coming thru the adjoining section of the roof between the metal roof and main dwelling, it was also described that the leak was caused by water entering the underneath of the existing #90lb. Mineral cap sheet membrane roll, where as the metal roof edge had lifted and the membrane had become loose causing any blowing rain water to enter and cause the water roof leak. It was also described and determined the roof leak was not coming from the roof locations we had worked on in the past. As described in our response letter, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 we evaluated the roof leak situation, and created a roof estimate to fix and repair the affected area, we called you the same day in the afternoon and stated to you the amount to fix and repair the affected area would be $675.00, you said you all would talk about it. You called our office the same day in the afternoon and told us to go ahead and proceed with the work. Customer Response

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
We don’t feel the amount of work justifies the amount charged. My husband feels that a $300.00 refund would be sufficient for the “scope of the work.”
Regards,
