To Whom It May Concern at the Revdex.com:I have received and carefully reviewed the client's complaint regarding our service which included an on-site structural inspection, written and stamped report, and recommendations to remediate the structural issues on that site. Unfortunately, this is a...
situation where the client may not be satisfied with any service due to the fact that the existing conditions of his project, though on a smaller scale, require expensive and time-consuming remediation as per the building standards of his address. This remediation was unforeseen by the client before we were called to do the inspection, and the results of that site visit and structural report created a delay in the homeowner's schedule with the contractor: work could not begin until the structural issues were addressed an re-inspected. This client then initiated the remediation on his own accord and ad-hoc after Summit Structural had already completed the calculations for the project as it was originally presented to us. He then expected us to re-calculate the design free of charge based on his overnight quick-fix. There was some negative back-and-forth communication during this timeframe as the client wanted ad hoc changes made to the structural report so he could quickly attain the building permit. When this did not happen, he took it upon himself to do his own calculations for his quick-fix idea since "the contractor was waiting...," questioning my math skills and accusing me of not understanding "basic math."I am an established Professional Engineer in the structural domain with many years' experience in industrial, commercial and residential analysis under IBC standards. We consult for several industrial clients in the Phoenix area who are large technical corporations, contracting with us for difficult structural determinations. In most, if not all, of these project scenarios, calculations must be exact and on par with recent IBC 2012 code standards, or there would be loss of life. That said, there are many safety elements to be considered in every project, even a small residential one such as this •Finally, to clarify a few points that this client has mentioned: 1) I asked the wrought iron fence question in order to determine the manufacturer and verify the iron component of the material including the structural shape of the fence, not because I don't know what wrought iron is; 2) the inspection report was written ethically as the site exists, not just ta get a building permit; 3) it's true that I did not deliver what the client wanted- if I had done that, the safety of the people on his property (his family?) would be at risk. I take my structural engineer's license very seriously. I urge all potential clients to visit our website [redacted] to confirm our commitment to safety and integrity in service. Please do not hesitate to call me if I can be of further assistance. Regards,
