I have added the receipt for the cleaning and carpet replacement. Talking to [redacted], the owner of [redacted], I understand why the carpet was replaced. He tried everything he could to clean the living room and master bedroom. The master bedroom came clean after multiple cleaning but he could...
not get the livingroom clean. Therefor he recommended the replacement. I am so sorry the former tenant feels unhappy but the amount I gave as as a refund for the $600. is all I can do. The carpet was replaced and paid for. Karen S[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:I am not disputing whether the living room carpet needed to be replaced; however, I am disputing whether I should have to pay for it. Under NM law, a landlord CANNOT charge a tenant for normal wear and tear. After 6 years of living in the house, plus previous occupancy by the owner, it is reasonable that the carpet would need replacing after 6+ years of normal wear and tear. There was NOTHING that was outside of normal wear and tear such as rips in the carpet or stains from food or other substances. Also, it is important to note that the carpet did not need to be replaced in any room other than the living room, which was the room in which my family did the majority of it's living during the 6 years we occupied the house. I, therefore, reject this response on the basis that I should not have to pay for the "normal wear and tear" of the carpet.
