Student Loan Consolidation of America

This company (SLCA) scams people with student loans. I give them one star because I had to. They deserve no stars as they are scamming their "clients". They are a 3rd party company that purportedly helps you consolidate your loans, but is not one of the 4 US Department of Education authorized companies to service federal student loans. They charge up front fees to send information to the USDE to get you set up on an income assistance or other USDE program in order to lower monthly payments. These programs go year-to-year so have to be recertified every year. SLCA then charges recertification fees every year and will not hesitate to submit incorrect/incomplete income information to the USDE. In my case, they even set up a bogus email account that linked them to my Fedloan account so that I had to get everything on my online Fedloan account reset - login ID, password & security questions in order to access my account. My strong advise is to go directly through the USDE, not SLCA, to set up any income assistance or loan forgiveness program. USDE does not charge fees to recertify, and the USDE rep referred to SLCA as a "scam company".
