THE CHAINSAW WAS BROUGHT IN WITH BAD FUEL IN THE TANK. I HAD HER SMELL THE FUEL AND SHE SAID THAT IT DID SMELL ODD. I TRIED STARTING THE SAW AND IT WOULD NOT RUN. WE TOLD THE CUSTOMER THAT IF THE CARBURETOR FAILED BECAUSE OF BAD FUEL IT WOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY REPAIR. WE INSPECTED THE SAW AND THE...
CARBURETOR WAS DAMAGED. WE EXPLAINED TO THE CUSTOMERS WHAT WE FOUND AND THE MAN SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE GAS, IT WAS THE CHAINSAW. WE TOLD THEM WE WOULD CALL STIHL TO SEE IF THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING. STIHL ALLOWED US TO WARRANTY THE CARBURETOR BUT SAID THE CUSTOMER WOULD BE LIABLE FOR MISC. PARTS AND LABOR. WE TOLD THEM WHAT STIHL WAS WILLING TO DO AND THE CUSTOMER WAS UPSET AND SAID THEY DIDNT WANT US TO DO ANYTING AND THEY PICKED UP THE CHAINSAW. PER WARRANTY GUIDELINES STIHL AND OR COMPANY DID NOTHING AND IN FACT, I BELIEVE STIHL SHOWED COMPASSION TOWARDS THE CUSTOMER BY COVERING THE EXPENSSIVE CARBURETOR
Lies and liars - Like working on your own power equip.? Don't try and buy the small stuff like gaskets here. They will tell you they don't have them. They said it was not possible to rebuild a string trimmer head on a wheeled string trimmer. Never mind I already did that for $15 at a local bearing shop - They wanted $150 just for the parts.
Life is too short to do business with people who look you in the eye and lie to you.
Try Al's saw shop - nice people and lots less B.S. !
Review: Saw was always hard to start. Did not use it much. In Dec., 2014 grown grandson couldn't start it returned it to stroups 2-3-15, stroups immediately took off gas cap and stuck finger in Gas and said it had bad gas. Used [redacted] oil and regular (87) unleaded gas. Same gas and oil was used in mantis rototiller until gone and had no problem. They blamed it on ethanol and said to use higher octane. Recently called company that supplies gas to only station (frontier fuel) in hay fork I was told all octanes have same 10% ethanol in calif. [redacted] company said they would replace carbuerator but backed up stroups wanting to charge us $101. 87 for repair when it was under warranty.Desired Settlement: I wanted stroups to admit they sold us a defective saw and [redacted] to admit they had not backed up warranty when we purchased their oil. I wanted them to fix saw without charging us. Recently purchased [redacted] red saw same gas and oil. Runs and starts like a dream. Or give us our purchase price back.
