Strategy financial was responsible for managing our finances for almost two years. Prior to becoming clients strategy was my Mother In law's financial advisor. When my Mother In law passed they were asked to help us with the transition of the estate. After her mothers passing my wife was very vulnerable. We did not have a full understanding of how all,the tax laws and inheritance laws worked. Strategy put us into vehicles that were not the best for us. In one case we were sold an annuity that tied up a significant amount of our money for 15 years. We trusted them to do what was best for us. We were made to believe that this money had to go into this type of vehicle to avoid significant penalties and taxes. After several months of reading and research I found that this was not true. I further found that this vehicle would not earn us the money we needed. Essentially this money would earn at a low rate for 15 years. Further more I discovered that the commission recieved by Strategy was in the neighborhood of $30,000.00. When we challenged strategy with this information our advisor just told us that we had agreed to it. Technically he was correct. We had agreed to purchase this insurance product. We agreed to purchase it because we were not given all of the options available to us. We were led to believe that we were dealing with a financial planner who had our best interest at heart. What we found was that we were being sold insurance products without fully understating it. On several other occasions strategy had try to sell us other insurance products. We told them time and again that we did not want to purchase insurance products. Unfortunately we are stuck with this one.
