Steve's A-Z Appliance Reviews (1)

Review: I have a 1 year old Whirlpool, upright freezer. On Friday, 29 August, 2014 (the beginning of Labor Day weekend), I came home to find the freezer not freezing, and the contents starting to defrost. I was able to contact an appliance repair company--H and H Appliance Repair-- who came to my home on Saturday, 30 August. H and H correctly diagnosed the problem as a defective "defrost timer." (Hand H charged me about $62 which is their standard fee for the service call and labor. They would have returned to my home at no additional charge to replace the part).I contacted Whirlpool Corp. on Wednesday, 3 September. They agreed to send me the part (at no charge) provided I had the freezer repaired by an approved Whirlpool appliance repair company. I then contacted Steve's A to Z Appliance in Cottonwood (in person), spoke to the owner, and explained what I needed to be repaired. Steve's quoted me a repair cost of about $59. He was very friendly and helpful at this time, and I left the store feeling my freezer would be properly repaired. When the part arrived I made an appointment for my freezer to be repaired on Friday, 12 September, by Steve's A to Z Appliance . The repair person charged me $59, as I had been quoted, plus an additional $40, that I had not been quoted. I phoned Steve's Appliance, explained that I thought there might be an error with the bill, and asked to speak to the owner. I was told "...he was with a customer...and would call me back." When I did not receive a phone call, I stopped by the store to try to discuss the additional $40 charge. The owner became very angry, refused to discuss the bill, and told me that" the service call to my home (about 12 miles each way) was $59...$40 was for labor...and I should have expected the additional charge." I tried to tell the owner he should communicate these charges clearly to the client to avoid misunderstandings.I am willing to pay the $59 as initially quoted, but I do not want to pay the additional $40.Desired Settlement: I am willing to pay the $59 as initially quoted, but I want the additional $40 removed from my bill. I feel this is a fair settlement. Also, I did receive a written bill from H & H Appliance repair, but I have not received a bill from Steve's Appliance.

Business

Response:

Business states consumer has been sent a check in the amount of $40 for the labor that was being charged. The check was sent out on 10/01/2014 and should have been received by now.
