summary [redacted] contests the charges for both laboratory interpretations as well as a charge for medical records. Upon review of the charges, I have determined that both charges were submitted appropriately. [redacted] had laboratory services performed, which she acknowledged within the letter. Our physicians, as ordering providers, are required to review all lab tests to identify and communicate any urgent abnormalities identified during the test. Since lab tests are not ordered for each patient at our facility we only add the fee for patients who have a lab test performed, and only after the physician has reviewed the results of the test, as in the case of [redacted]. In regards to the medical records fee, this is a standard charge for patients seeking to obtain, or forward, hard copies of their records. [redacted] policy allows for an administrative charge for medical records. The fee on [redacted]'s account was in line with this policy.Although all of the charges were appropriate, as summarized above, we will waive the patients $43 as a patient service gesture. We will follow up with [redacted] to share our decision. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the inquiry. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Have a wonderful day!Sincerely,Loren *. R[redacted] Assistant Vice President - Ambulatory Services###-###-####
