Steel City Motorcycle Co Reviews (2)

Review: 1) Over charged sales tax on Repair / Service bill. Invoive Sales tax $92.48. The total of items purchased for repairs on my invoice is $715.03. Washingtonton County, Pa sales tax is 6%. The tax on my bill should be $42.90.

2) Charged $65.72 for "shop supplies".

I was billed for every bolt, screw and gasket on my invoice. This is an

exorbitant amount for vague, undescribed items. I was told that the shop

supplies would be waived but they were not.

3) The itemized pages of my bill for labor comes

to $827.28. The total labor charge on the last page of the invoice is $1026.90.

The difference is $198.92 more than the Labor charges itemized. I agreed to the

labor hours that is specified for each service. I also paid a labor charge for

the time they charged me to figure out how to make repairs.Desired Settlement: 1) Refund of $49.58.

2) Requesting Refund of $65.72.

3) Refund of $198.92.

I am in receipt of your letter dated 5/27/14 from Mr. [redacted], a service customer of Steel City Motorcycle Company. I have thoroughly reviewed this letter and his complaint and would like to inform you that his complaint is not accurate whatsoever. First and foremost, Mr. [redacted] has two separate issues that he is referring to. First, his service repair bill and the second that his bike doesn't start. The motorcycle wasn't here for starting issues; it was here for other repair work in which it was performed to 100% of his satisfaction. We have offered to look at that the starting issues as a separate issue if he so desires.

I have included detailed email responses to his Revdex.com complaint as well as his other complaints of Steel City. As I informed him, I take a customer service as a priority and there was no need to go the Revdex.com especially after he reviewed all of the work on his motorcycle and spent well over 2 hours reviewing his work order with my service manager and paid the bill on his credit card.

Mr. [redacted]'s numbers and figures don't add up, we made appropriate adjustments to the work order that he agreed to and paid us for based on or 2 hour conversation. At NO time did he ask to speak to me or the owner for that matter if he had such a problem with his bill. I am perplexed to why this complaint was even filed and I am confident that after you review these documents you will see that Steel City performed their duties, obligations and charged Mr. [redacted] fairly and appropriately for services rendered.

Review: Took my motorcycle to Steel City Harley and, while there, decided to have state inspection performed. The sign in the service area indicated the cost to be $33.00. When I paid my bill, the final total was $42.28. When I questioned the costs I was told there were additional charges, one of which was shop supplies. I find this to be totally unreasonable. My bill broke down the charges as follows:Inspection.............$33.00Inspection sticker..... 2.00Shop supplies.......... 5.00Tax.................... 2.28 TOTAL.........$42.28I have owned Harleys over 17 years and have had them inspected at other Harley dealers and never been subjected to any extra charges. The posted rates were what was charged plus tax. None of them charged the extra $2.00 for the sticker or the "added profit" of $5.00 for shop supplies. I feel their advertising is misleading and an extremely poor business practice. I will never return to this dealership again for any purpose and will pass the word to others to not patronize this dealer.Desired Settlement: When I questioned these charges I was advised that was their policy and I had to pay.

Response:

I spoke to Mr. [redacted] and informed him of our State Inspection Policy that has been in force since 2005. We charge .44 hours of labor ($33.00) and a $2.00 sticker fee plus state sales tax, and these charges are clearly posted on a service menu board behind the service counter.

Mr. [redacted] said that he didn't see the board and that he disagreed with the stores charge not to have the sticker included. I told him that wasn't our policy and it was clearly marked so ALL customers can see and review all service charges. This is not a "added profit" as Mr. [redacted] contends.

The $5.00 shop supply charge that he also disagreed to and is added to every work order no matter what the service is being refunded back to him. I explained that this once again isn't "added profit" but a charge that is applied to every work order to pay for the expense associated with the work performed. I would hope this clear explanation would be beneficial to his understanding how service shops work and the charges associated with quality work performed on his motorcycle.
