[redacted] in reference to her claim seeking compensation for the cost of replacing her dryer, due to the damage to the starter button. The initial purpose for my being at her unit was to look at water damage and Submit a proposal for repairs to the ceiling in the closet housing the washer/dryer. This request was made by [redacted], who is the advisor for [redacted] Association board. The proposal was accepted by the board to make the repairs, In order to access the entire ceiling for the repairs and painting, the washer/dryer stack unit needed to be pulled out of the closet, With little space, I managed to slide the washer / dryer unit out of the closet without incident. The repairs and painting of the ceiling were completed.I made mention to [redacted] how much lent and dust was on and around the top, back and exhaust tube of the closet and dryer and stated to her that the lent accumulation was hazardous and could cause a fire. [redacted] hired me personally to clean the dryer vent and exhaust of lent and dust. The cleaning of the dryer lent was completed inside and out while the unit was still outside the closet. In the process of sliding the unit back into the closet, the dryer starter button fell off to the floor, I picked it up and went to put it back on, but noticed that it was broken and apparently taped to keep it together. I informed [redacted] of the button falling off and the tape. She made reference to the machine being there since the building over 14 years. She also mentioned the tape bandaging to keep the buttons on to extend the life of the machine, since she could not afford to purchase a new unit. (The starter button was not the only button that was taped.) There was not a discussion about Mr. Alston, “you broke the button', ‘how do you plan to fix it’ or anything of the sort, I offered to her, like I do with all of my clients at that community where she lives and elsewhere, to do the leg work for them. I would call [redacted]’s appliance store to get the part, pick it up, advance the payment for the part and return to install for free. In a day or two, I returned to her unit to make the repair. Due to the cost of the part and what the labor charge would be, I told her that she would at least have to pay for the part. She asked me how much, in addition to how much the cost was to clean the dryer vents lent. When I returned, I was accompanied by the condo President of the board and the Board advisor to inspect the completion of the ceiling repair work. At that time it was mentioned to them that the button fell off. I attempting to remove the panel to remove the starter button for replacement, but was unsuccessful due to the process it takes to remove it, I called [redacted] Appliance repair after having discussions with the condo board officials present. We inquired about the cost of service for the unit. They quoted optional prices. The Board President intervened and there were discussions between her and [redacted] about the unit, repair cost or replacement. The condo Board President, **. [redacted], took over at that point.Although I did not break it, l purchased the part and I made an attempt to make the repair for free. I also called [redacted] for an estimated repair cost on [redacted]’s behalf.Sincerely,Stanley Alston3/
