food.On the day in question, June 8th ,2015 she was definitely inebriated. After she was processed at the Intake Desk she began her display of inappropriate behavior loudly complaining about staff attitude, that other clients were harassing her (which did not happen), and just being loud and disruptive. Despite this display of negative behavior she went to the Pantry Service area where she was served her allocation of food as usual and according to the Hunger Networks menu of distribution. She took the food bags and left. She then returned a short while later with her so called "complaint".The complaint was that our pantry volunteer gave her some rotten carrots. On that day we did not have carrots and what she received was sweet potatoes. As careful as we are to make sure we distribute fresh produce sometimes a bad product slips by us. My pantry volunteer staff member offered to exchange any produce she felt was bad with new and fresh produce. She refused saying she was going to ?le a complaint with the Surgeon General and proceeded to go across the street to the Lorain-Carnegie Library which she refers to in her complaint letter as the West St. Clair Cleveland Public Library. This exchanged occurred in the parking lot of Near West where she also began demanding to know the names of all that staff members there. Understandably, the staff members were reluctant to give their names to an individual in her inebriated condition. My Pantry Manager again offered to give her my name and contact phone number as Program Coordinator, but she refused and left the premises. She also commented that she had missed doctor appointments, had pain in her knee, along with blood pressure problems. Yet she had the ability to go home and then return to Near West to register all her inebriated anger at my staff regarding a situation that would have been easily rectified with new bags of food. This is an unfortunate incident and very offensive to us at Near West. We pride ourselves on serving a clientele base who find themselves in unfortunate situations and making their lives just a bit rewarding. We have experienced other individuals such as this complainant and try to display kindness, consideration, and understanding to their circumstances. ln my tenure at Near West this is the first complaint directed at our staff and service. If Revdex.com needs to contact me, my office phone is 216-[redacted].Very Sincerely, [redacted] Program CoordinatorNear West Family and Food Service Center
