Review: I had scheduled surgery on Dec 3, 2014. I informed the doctor that my insurance would expire on Nov 26, 2014, but that I would continue it via COBRA. I returned the required information and paid several months in advance, prior to the Dec 3, 2014 date. Unfortunately, there was a window of time between Nov 26 and Dec 3 of 2014 when the insurance coverage was not shown. I attempted to explain to the person at St Jude that I actually had 60 days in order to decide whether or not I wanted to apply for COBRA, so they should simply submit the bills, as usual, and they would be taken care of. The person was apparently unaware of COBRA and demanded that I pay. I paid, via credit card, $1000 in order to be able to have the surgery. I was told that I had to call her back when the insurance was reinstated. Later that month, I received several bills from the surgery that had been processed successfully, so I called back that person's phone and left a message. I received a callback message, telling me that I would have to call ANOTHER number to request a refund. When I called that number, I was told that I would receive the $1000 check in 4-6 weeks. I later did receive a check, but it was for $1000.01. I deposited it and have found that a STOP-PAYMENT was issued, and my bank charged me $12. Also, St Jude has now sent me a bill for $1000.01. I have since found that St Jude, without my knowledge, did credit back my credit card for $1000, back on Jan 24, 2015. I was unaware that a company could keep my credit card information and make any transactions WITHOUT telling the consumer. It is still unclear as to why I had to make the initial $1000 deposit, as $1000 does not BEGIN to cover the surgery costs. Also, there seems to be too many people at St. Jude that are unable to process transactions knowledgeably. St. Jude needs to retrain their people with more CONSUMER-FRIENDLY procedures. Why would St Jude not mail me a stmt that my credit card was reimbursed? Why issue a check AND stop payment w/o writing me?Desired Settlement: As a minimum, I would expect to be reimbursed for the $12.00. Because of all the EXTRA and UNNECESSARY trouble tat they have caused, it would be more fair if they also gave me an additional $15.00 for my trouble and for bringing this matter to their attention.Total $12 + $15 = $27.00.
