Review: WHILE TYPING A DOCUMENT ON MACBOOK PRO,I NEEDED TO LOOK UP SOME INFO ON THE INTERNET (SAFARI).WHEN I OPEND SAFARI,A WARNING MESSAGE CAME UP STATING SOMETHING ABOUT SAFARI, MAJOR SECURITY ISSUE, CONTACT APPLE[redacted]WHEN I CALL THIS #, A VOICE RECORDING STATED THANK YOU FOR CALLING ONLINE SUPPORT&I WAS PUT IN CONTACT WITH A MAN OF INDIAN DECENT NAMED [redacted], WHO TOLD ME THE ONLY WAY E COULD HELP ME WAS TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON MY COMPUTER.HE WANTED ME TO TYPE JOINREMOTE.ME THAT DIDN'T WORK SO HE HAD ME TYPELOGMEIN123.COM.HE RAN WHAT LOOKED LIKE A LIST OF FILES. POINTED OUT THE IP ADDRESS AND TOLD TOLD ME THAT MY HOME NETWORK WAS HACKED BY A THROUGH MEGASHARE.HE ASKED ME FOR MY ZIP CODE.HE THAN TYPED ON MY SCREEN THROUGH TEXT EDIT MY 2 OPTIONS:GREEN MAC STORE WHICH COULD TAKE 7-8 DAYS OR SQUARE TECHNO WHICH WILL TAKE 60-90 MINUTES, BOTH COSTING 199.99.THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CC STATEMENT WOULD REFLECT A CHARGE FROM AVANGATE.I WAS PANICKED THAT SOMEONE HAD ACCESS TO ALL MY FINANCIAL INFO, SO I OPTED FOR THE SQUARE TECHNO. THEY TRANSFERRED THE CALL&I WAS PUT IN TOUCH W/ [redacted], WHO ASKED FOR NAME,EMAIL DOB.THEY PULLED UP THEIR WEBSITE ASKING FOR BILLING ADDRESS, CC#.PLEASE KNOW I QUESTION SECURITY,NAME &DECENT.I ASKED WHY I COULDNT TAKE IT TO APPLE STORE,THE REPLY WAS THAT HOME NETWORK WAS COMPROMISED & APPLE COULD NOT FIX.THEY BEGAN TO FIX COMPUTER & PROVIDED A MAKESHIFT RECEIPT ON MY DESKTOP.IT WOULD TAKE AN HR&THEY WOULD CALL BACK AT THE # I PROVIDED. I COULD WATCH ON THE SCREEN AFTER HANGING UP.I CALLED800-587-9155TO ASK THEM ABOUT OTHER DEVICES THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO PLUG IN THROUGH USB.I HUNG UP PHONE&FEW MIN LATER THEY CALLED&ASKED FOR MY PW.WHILE WATCHING COMP I CALLED 800MYAPPLE & THEY TOLD ME APPLE DOES NOT USE 3RD PARTIES. COMPUTER WAS SHUT DOWN, CONNETION WAS LOST,THEY CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO REESTABLISH CONNECTION.MY ACCT WAS CHARGED 199.99.APPLE SECURITY IDENTIFIED AS A SCAM.Desired Settlement: I HAVE EMAIL CONFIRMATION THAT MY ACCT WAS CHARGED AND CAN PROVIDE BANK STATEMENTS. I WANT TO SHUT THEM DOWN AND PUT THEM IN JAIL FOR FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY.

Review: My Mac mini computer was having strange internet pop ups. While updating Adobe, I got a "security warning" that appeared to be from Apple or at least looked like similar messages from the computer. A phone number was provided. I called [redacted] and spoke with [redacted]. He indicated this was a familiar problem with malware, etc and suggested he remote in to my computer (log Me In was the software used) to assist me. I agreed, he then suggested that I take the computer to an Apple Store or have a certified level 8 technician assist me remotely. I live 2 hours from an Apple store so I went ahead with the suggestion. He did mention cost involved. Again, I thought I was talking with someone from Apple. I was transferred to [redacted] at Square Techno Inc. Between Alex and another gentleman and almost 2 hours later, the adware and malware appeared to be fixed. I felt relieve and paid the $199.99. During this time my husband found on Apple Support that this is a scam. So I quickly got online to reach Apple Support. I received a call from [redacted] who was very helpful even though my Mac was 2 years old and no longer qualified for free support. He spent about 30 minutes making sure that my computer was safe, had me remove 3-4 softwares that were added. Did say that Adware Medic (a free software) was safe to use (it was installed by Techno). Knowing that I use the software for online shopping and banking was very concerned about password safety. Also, concerned that additional charges would appear on my credit card. I have cancelled my credit card and called the company back and demanded a refund which they assured me would happen within 48 hours. I realize that I was gullible to fall for this scam...I do not want others to do the same. In talking more with Apple Support, it appears that individuals/companies put out this malware in hopes to catch unsuspecting people like me. Completely disrespectful and shameful practice! I have a copy of the contract I signed and would be happy to share if this would assist others. The contract was for one year free tech support.Desired Settlement: I hope to receive back my $199.99 but the bigger issue is stopping companies that prey online!
