On Friday, February 7th my 13 year old daughter was threatened with police action if she did not leave the Spotlight Cinemas Hudson theater. A happy weekly attender of movies with friends, straight A’s student and respectful teen, my girl met two close friends to see Jumangi 2. Four boys who she is not friends with, but know her one girlfriend sat near them and were making a ruckus. The boys were warned by the theater for their noise. My daughter attempted to take action with her two close friends and moved away from the rowdy boys as they left for refreshments. When the boys came back, they saw the move and followed. Eventually these boys ended up getting themselves kicked out of the theater, and from what I understand were very disrespectful in doing so. My daughter was not only embarrassed by them, but actually relieved that they were going to be gone. As they were getting kicked out she sat with her two close friends and watched. Then, she was informed...a girl who was NOT disturbing the theater, was NOT being disrespectful, was NOT breaching her movie going contract with the theater that SHE was getting kicked out as well, and if she didn’t leave then the police would be called. Really?
When questioning the theater manager Amanda on if my daughter was in fact making noise or doing anything to disturb the theater, she could NOT say that in fact did anything wrong...other than being forced to sit by some very nasty boys. She was denied seeing her movie, humiliated in front of a theater full of people and threatened with police action, all for somebody else’s actions who, other than close proximity in the theater that night, she has NO connection to. She’d sooner crawl up in a ball and cry, than challenge authority. My girl was truly shaken by this experience, and I feel a true injustice has been done by this theater...as a caring father I am fuming mad. I am seeking a refund for my girl, who paid with her own money, and a written apology. I will be speaking with my lawyer
