The salesperson misled my wife and I by his explanation of the Federal Solar Program. He positioned the program like a grant not a tax deduction. We were told that we would receive $10,358.00 from the Federal Government in 2020 to pay toward the loan of $34,500.00, resulting in a monthly payment of $151.00. This is not true. I found out online that the Federal Solar Program is not a grant at all but a tax incentive. I'm 67 years old and my wife is 66. Our retirement is mainly based on our social security payments and a small military pension and a very small Athena insurance pension. We get most if not all of our taxes back each year. We will see no benefit claiming the Federal Solar tax deduction. After 18 months our monthly payment from the solar panel will increase from $151.00 to $216.00. I've contacted the salesperson and a manager of marketing with Speir and was told they would provide me a contact with the VA Administration to receive a grant of $6,000.00 to pay toward the solar panels. I never received this information and after researching the "grant" I discovered this was a another loan. My last phone call was with the marketing manager who stated that the salesperson would pay for a CPA to tell me how I would file my taxes for next year. I declined this offer since I now understand how the Federal Solar program works and knowing I pay little to no taxes that no benefit would result from this offer. That ended my communications with Speir.
