Review: As an employee of the US Government, I began coverage under SAMBA’s disability income protection program on 1/1/12. I resigned from my position with the US Government on 9/3/12. However, during February of 2013, I was made aware that SAMBA had continued withdrawing the monthly premium charge of $57.93 until I contacted them to stop the automatic withdrawals.
On 2/15/13, I requested by phone, and subsequently in writing (as requested by SAMBA), that my coverage with SAMBA be cancelled, and that my premiums, totaling $347.58 over a period of six months, be returned. In fact, according to SAMBA, I was no longer covered by the disability income protection plan as of 9/3/12; yet, SAMBA continued charging the premium.
A letter received from SAMBA on 2/19/13 stated “…your request for a refund cannot be honored…” However, the same letter indicated “Your coverage under this Program will terminate on the earliest of any of the following:…The date you are no longer employed by an eligible Employer…” (fourth bullet point on page two of enclosed letter). That is, SAMBA indicated that my disability income protection ended on my last day of employment, 9/3/13; and, that benefits would not have been honored should I have needed disability income protection. Yet, SAMBA continued to take payment; and, now, has refused to return said payment.Desired Settlement: Return of premium that was charged for services not rendered in the amount of $347.58
