I took my two dachsunds to this facility on 6/29/2019. I wanted to get them back on their heart-worm meds as this area is prone to this condition. My daughter had recently gotten married and moved away and she was the one that usually handled this task. I am not rich and cannot always afford to go to my regular vet hospital. It is well known that you have to have your dogs tested for heart-worm before they can received meds. This facility's process is without an appointment you show up, sign in, and sit down. They then come out and take your animals back to the back for what I thought was the routine exam for heart-worm. On that same day they received their rabies and DHPP. They then brought back my dogs, I got in line to pay for the visit and heart-guard meds. I then began getting their heart-guard off of the online pharmacy through the mail. I usually get a 6pk that I use for both of my dogs. I had done this at least twice before and on the third time my order was declined because I needed a yearly exam. I have this in an email. I called to let them know that I had my dogs there on June 29/2019 and it has not nearly been a year. The girl on the phone verified this, but then told me that I could not get the meds until I had a relationship with the vet. Keep in mind now that I did not even get to go back with my dogs much less see the vet. But that same vet is the one telling me I need another annual exam. I feel like many people in that I have done my due diligence trying to be responsible with my animals. I love the convenience of using the online pharmacy and having the meds mailed to me as I do not get off work in time to get there to buy them in person. But I am now having to be inconvenienced and told to spend more money to bring them in again. Will this visit count for a year or 6 months? What is the criteria for a "relationship". This facility has 3 or 4 vets that come through there. What criteria is there for an "exam". The health of my dogs has now been put to risk.
Other (requires explanation) I just want them to give me my dog's meds. I am in disbelief that I am even having to go through this. It makes it look like they are drumming up business where there shouldn't have to be any. I question this practice at this point, and I am very disappointed. I have always thought well of these people and this facility as most of it is voluntary or donations.

The visit to clinic June 2019 was for a Heatworm blood test only, not a physical exam by a
veterinarian.
Clinic policy is that each animal must have a once yearly exam by a veterinarian in order to
purchase Heartworm/Flea/and Tick medicine. Prescriptions are generally allowed to be filled
for 1 year following an exam. Ms. request for refill was denied when staff
noticed that the dogs had not had a physical exam from the veterinarian within the one year
period.
These policies are in place to protect the animal from any adverse reactions that could occur
due to an underlying medical issue reacting to the medications themselves.
A doctor client relationship is required by state law in order to dispense certain medications.
It is our policy to follow those rules.
Ms. can request a $40 regular physical exam with one of our veterinarians to see
if there are any issues that might cause an adverse reaction.
