I purchased a remote control operated electric fireplace. I called them because my remote control device was malfunctioning. They advised that it would have to be operated manually because the parts were no longer available. They sent out a serviceman and he put on a three prong plug which was done in ten minutes. The cost of the prong plug was $3.95. Labor charged was $30.00 and gas surcharge was $22.50. When presented with the bill, they added a further service fee charge of $100.00. At the time of the work order, the owner did not tell me up front about this service fee charge. This was an excessive and hidden cost which I was not informed of. The onus is upon the owner to be transparent and to advise the customer up front with regards to all the charges. He failed to do that. I have been grossly overcharged for a ten minute job.
