Review: I had this company install my laminate flooring through [redacted] and felt they did a timely and good job. So I decided to have them do a new railing and do tiling work in my bathroom. I was quoted a good price for the overall job. However the experience has not been as pleasant. I have paid half down of $900. This work started in Feb 2016 and here almost end of Mar 2016 with the work still incomplete. Week after week I'm being told the bathroom and railing will be completed with very slow progress. I'm continually having to call [redacted] the contractor to get updates and majority of the time unaware of the progress made on the job. Finally in the stretch I have made a list of what needs to be completed and the job once again not completed as promised by Tuesday Mar 22nd and no follow up call on what is going on job. Even during the work a sliding closet door was nailed to wall while work was done and I have requested it be replaced as well. Old fixtures in shower were put back in when quoted for new fixtures, tile touch ups, wall touch up, baseboard touch up, caulking and correct color divider between bedroom and bathroom put in is work still needed in bathroom. Railing still needs to be painted and damaged piece of cabinet in kitchen from flooring install still needs to be repaired.

Looking to get this job completed soonest possible even though was quoted good price in beginning and being told work would take a couple weeks has become a couple months even though delayed a few days by bad weather it has not been worth the money. However I feel once work completed it will look great.Desired Settlement: Would like the job finished now and correctly with some monetary compensation for time without fully functioning bathroom.

In response to the complaint (ID of [redacted]) submitted by [redacted] at the address of 1[redacted], Southern Comfort Construction Inc. has been in contact, via both phone and email, with [redacted] on multiple occasions and is in the process of obtaining a bulleted list of all project items that need to be completed based on the homeowner's expectations. We are happy to continue to provide customer service to [redacted] and complete the work according to her bulleted list. Once the final bulleted list is received from [redacted], we will review it, make arrangements for our install crew to complete the list to [redacted]'s acceptance, and finalize the project she referenced in the above complaint. I would like to mention that in the compliant [redacted] mentioned that "I had this company install my laminate flooring through [redacted] and felt they did a timely and good job." However, [redacted] is now adding complaints about the flooring project. I feel that this may be a never ending complaint, however, we are here to please the customer within a timely manner according to the original project scope agreed upon in the original contract. Upon receiving the bulleted list, I will notify [redacted] that we will be back in touch with her within 48 hours to go over the list and make a plan to complete the project to her liking in a timely manner.Any questions, please feel free to call me at the office. Thank you[redacted]

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I will respond with satisfaction once the work is actually completed in timely manner to my satisfaction. I provided the bullet list however the business wanted to come out and take pictures in person and go over the list which was done on 4/6 and was expecting in 48hours to have an action plan which I'm still awaiting. I know [redacted] is new to the business to help better manage customers and hope in this process things will go better to getting the project complete versus the previous two month of empty promises getting the work complete.

Response:

I did receive the bulleted list from [redacted]. I then called her to schedule a walk through to review the bulleted list with her personally and to take pictures. I completed the walk through and took pictures at the set appointment date, which was April 6, 2016 at 5pm. I worked around her schedule as she needed it to be after work and had previously made plans on other days offered prior to April 6th. After the walk through, I have been diligently working with [redacted]'s request to make an action plan and also to keep her in the loop by communicating each step of the way. Her list is not a small list and there are things on the list that are actually not in the original contract. I also had to coordinate the action plan with the our crews and their schedule. I have reached out to the installers, such as the plumber, painter, finishers, and etc. to get the feedback I needed from them while reviewing the pictures and notes taken at the walk through on April 6th. I called and spoke with [redacted] on 4/11/2016 at 5:33pm to keep the communication flowing by letting her know where I stood with making a plan of action for her and I informed her that I have reached out to the crews and waiting to her back and I hope to get the information I needed and would call her back Wed am. I continued to work with our install crews to get feedback on the information I needed, so that I could give [redacted] some feedback. I am not going to give her any information that I do not have or deliver any empty promises, but what I have done was kept the communication flowing and I called her on Wed (4/13/2016) am at 851am like I told her I would to let her know I was still working with the plumber to get the information I needed about her project and coordinate with the schedule. I had all intentions of calling her today to schedule her repairs for Monday, April 25th, however I am back to following up with you, [redacted] from the Revdex.com. I am working hard to get all of her request completed as again her bulleted list was quite longer than the original contract. Prior to today there has not been any mention of a repair date , only mentions of making an action plan and getting everything together for the repairs and additional work and once it was all put into place, I would call her and schedule a repair date with her. At this time, I have heard back from the plumber today 4/14/2016 at 438pm and I have confirmed with the crews and [redacted] that we will have people out there to complete her repairs according to the original contract on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Thank you[redacted]###-###-####

[redacted],I'm not sure why in their response they advised they would complete work by April 26 when in voicemail and verbal communication with [redacted] at Southern Comfort I was advised they would complete work by today. Contractors were in the last couple of days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and I was advised work would have been done by today from [redacted] directly. When I got home yesterday afternoon I was left a note by the contractors that all the work was complete however they could not fix the dining room floor. All work was not complete per descriptions for the attached pictures that is still not complete. I sent these pictures to [redacted] this morning in turn she has left me a voicemail (since I'm at work) that her and owner [redacted] want to set up a time to meet with me Monday. She also keeps mentioning a contract which I never saw the details of a contract from [redacted] he started writing a quote up when initially discussed details for the work to be done and was going to rewrite one in the beginning as he originally quoted kitchen and bathroom work (and I decided to only do bathroom at this time) and of course correcting the flooring installation through [redacted]. All I'm asking for is the work to be done correctly. I should not have received a note from contractors work was completed when in fact they should have come in after them to ensure it was all done as all along they have not done so to this point. I don't feel it necessary to meet to go over the same list for the 3rd or 4th time. Just want the work done and monetary compensation to me there nothing to discuss to get the work done.Note: The only thing I could not attach to this response was my video of the floor in dining room still bending. Also, again I did not respond to this sooner until contractor started action they promised from this communication to Revdex.com. Sorry but their actions continue to disappoint and turn out the same, I was hoping for a different result this go around.

I spoke with [redacted] this am and he can have the drywall guys come over and review and discuss your project concerns with him tomorrow. Can you please leave a key so we can have access to the inside? After reviewing the job, they will complete what they can/what needs to be done that day then with the remaining concerns [redacted] will still be meeting with you on Friday(5/6) at 4:45pm. Any feedback is appreciated. This is [redacted] emailing you the drywall guy is unable to meet on Friday so I need him to meet me there this morning so I can have him inspect his work and touch it up if need be. I would like to try to see the things personally so I can bring stuff to repair during our meeting friday. I also saw the pictures and they do not always tell the story. So if I can visually set my eyes on them maybe I can repair during our meeting and drywall can be addressed today for he is not available tomorrow. I would like to get this issue resolved while I am in town.

This is my response to the email I got this morning after I left my house. I asked for the work to be completed but they insisted on meeting first and now changing their mind again how to handle this is why I have not allowed them access to my home today as it is ever changing.here is my email response:I did not leave the key out today. It was insisted that we meet before anything else was done so that is what we will do. I was told what I was asking for was not in the contract however none was written as promised but a proposal that was without my signature. Your right this could be done by now but instead been dragged out and continue the runaround.See you Friday.

they did not show up instead pushing the work off once again as mentioned in email I sent to you. I don't understand as [redacted] and his contractor were to complete work not sure why one little patch on wall still needs patching holding it up. You can however I will not use them to continue work nor pay them any more money. As they yet could not put more in writing til this day. Instead had proposal with someone else's signature. I will hire someone else to complete work.

Review: Morningstar Bamboo flooring was purchased through [redacted] in Salem, Virginia. The salesperson happened to be the manager [redacted], who was very nice and guided my wife and myself through the process, saying that it was the latest thing and it was so hard you could drop a hammer on it and it wouldn't dent it. Let me add my wife and I had never had wood flooring installed in any one of our current or previous homes, so we were new to the process. We asked Mr. [redacted] who he would suggest to install the floor, and he suggested Southern Comfort Const. Co. and gave us their number. Dennis Corey came to our condominium and gave us a price to install, we agreed and gave him a deposit of half of his fee. Never at one time did Mr. [redacted] or Dennis Corey say one word about keeping track of the humidity until after our problem occurred although Mr. Corey says I signed a form saying he did, but I didn't get a copy of that form with the paperwork that he gave me. Getting the right flooring was an issue, but after it came in and was put down it was beautiful. About 4 months later we noticed some separation between some of the boards, we called Mr. Corey and after asking time and time again he showed up and said it was a humidity issue and he had 5 or 6 bigger than mine that were having problems with theirs as well. He ask that I get a gage that showed the humidity and I did it that day, his hand held gage showed my humidity and my new one showed it was within the limits, but then it got too high and he said to get a dehumidifier so I did that right away. I don't have room to say all that happened but it was a year of pure h---. WATCH OUT FOR SOUTHERN COMFORT CONST. AND DENNIS COREY IN MY CASE HE WOULD NOT CALL ME BACK---HE WOULD NOT SHOW UP WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD---WAS AS RUDE AS ANYONE I HAVE EVER DONE BUSINESS WITH---ONCE THE FINAL PAYMENT IS MADE PREPARE TO BEG FOR HELP WITH A PROBLEM---HE WILL THINK THIS IS A JOKE, BUT AVOID AT ALL COST THIS COMPANY.I COULD GO ON FOR HOURS ABOUT MY NIGHTMAREDesired Settlement: NONE

Review: Flooring improperly installed and several installation errors. First, I hope that other consumers will review the other Revdex.com Complaints and the complaint filed with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations. Complaints about service and unprofessional conduct have been registered with both agencies.

Southern Comfort Construction was hired to install bamboo flooring purchased at [redacted]. This was in December of 2013. I notified Southern Comfort Construction in March of the errors. The errors were documented in an inspection report in July of 2013. I have made 20 phone calls, emailed over 90 times, and sent a certified letter to request that the repairs be made. In return I have been subjected to missed appointments, phone calls not returned, and extremely unprofessional behavior. Nine months have passed since [redacted] of Southern Comfort Construction was notified of the issues and still the repairs have not been made. No customer should be treated as I and other have.Desired Settlement: The desired outcome of this complaint is to document my experience with Southern Comfort Construction.

Response:

[redacted] stated he did not have a contract with the consumer and was not paid by the consumer. He said consumer bought flooring from [redacted] and contacted [redacted] received payment and notified Southern Comfort about the job. [redacted] received complaint but would not pay Southern Comfort to go back for repairs. He sent the following email along with several attachments. Here is the initial paper work for Mrs. [redacted] I will follow that up with a letter stating the process in which she has never called me once or emailed me for the problems with her floor.

Review: southern comfort cons.agred to install in my kitchen a cork tile floting floor how ever they did not follow installation instruction.they did not shuffle the planks to obtain a blend of shades to the pattern of the floor planks.the floor tile or planks should be closed so that you dont see a seam running down the floor.some tile or planks are darker than the original tile.I talked to the owner of the construction CO.he told me his men installed it correctly I ask him to look at the floor he did not come,to look at the floor.I had other floor Insallers to look at the in my kitchen they all agred with me,saying it was installed Incorectly.Desired Settlement: I do not trust this CO.to do any more work for me an so IM looking for a total refund of 785.00 so ican get my floor done right I might have to replace some tiles planks to get this job done corectly this will come out of my pocket thank very much.

[redacted] stated there was nothing wrong with the flooring, an inspector came in and verified it was installed correctly. [redacted] waived the $1,400 installation fee.

Did a beautiful job. Very neat. On time and returned all calls and sent us to [redacted] in Salem and saved money, and they also were great. Very reasonable.

Review: I had a room ( 12x13) of hardwood floor installed on 8/21/2012. I noticed right away that the nail holes in the quarter round were not filled in. Dennis Corey ( owner) rushed his men out of my house- to another job on 8/21. I let it go. On April 22'nd- I noticed a 42 in. long CRACK in one of the pieces of hardwood flooring. I called Mr. Dennis L. Corey this last week of April, 2013. Dennis said he'd have someone come out in the next two weeks. NO ONE CAME OR CALLED. I called again. He promised to come to my home on 5/07. NO ONE CAME- Dennis Corey said he'd have someone come to my home on 5/21/2013. I waited - NO ONE CAME.His hired help did a great job- ( I assumed @ the time on 8/21/2013). Dennis Corey also promised some mysterious " BIG PRIZE" if I wrote a letter of recommendation. I wrote the letter on 8/23/2012- sent to his home. I have a copy. NO PRIZE. I am done with calls to him. I am a senior citizen on a limited income; I have a pay as you go cell phone. I will hire another contractor to repair this floor.Desired Settlement: I will have the effected section of flooring repaired by another contractor; I will have the quarter round holes filled. I would expect Mr. Dennis L. Corey to pay this bill

Review: In November 2013, I purchased Laminate from [redacted] in Salems, Va, they contracted Southern Comfort Construction as the installers. On Jan 4th, the flooring was completed and is fine. But at the time of completion [redacted] suggested they tear out my bar/counter and install a kitchen Hickory Island with a Graniite top and his Company would do the job. I received a second grade Hickory cabinet with large holes in the top of the drawers. I called [redacted], few weeks later, he send his men up to look at it. Nothing has been done. I have two Cabinets with NO BACK, NO GRANITE TOP, incomplete. I have called [redacted] many times asking where is my top and back, its always been an excuse, not ready, was cracked, color wrong, my men will deliver tomorrow, which was always a lie.

I have invested $386.00 into the cabinets which are second grade wood on Jan 4th.

Since he tore out my kitchen counter, I have no space in kitchen to eat or work. It looks terriable. It has been that way since Jan 4th.

I have heard so many excuses for not completing this job. He suggested tearing out the counter and putting a island in for me with Granite top.

I would not recommend Southern Comfort Construction to anyone.Desired Settlement: I want the Granite Top and Hickory back installed and a price adjusted for the secord grade wood in which the cabinet is made of.

All I want is this job to be completed.
