Review: Sounds of tristate installed a car audio in my truck and started having problems with it 3 months after install and they kept telling me nothing was wrong with it then when system finialy had a major malfunction and took it back to them said it was out of warranty and could fix with new product and diagnosed the problem as bad speakers I went out and got new speakers turns out it is not that simple it is not the speakers and is causing havoc on my electrical system car now buzzes like crazy and the stereo doesn't work at all and all then can do is recharge me again to fix the problem I don't have anouther $600 to put torwards a new system that only worked properly for about 3 months
Review: When I purchased my stereo system and had it installed in 2005 by Sound of Tristate, I had issues with my amplifier draining my batteries to completion and they were not able to be recharged. I kept going back and forth between Sound of Tristate and my mechanic and no one could figure out why my batteries were draining completely within 24 hours of having Sound of Tristate trying to fix the issue. When they could not diagnose it and after I had spent $1200 for several batteries, I disconnected my stereo system from my battery and I never had a draw again.
I went to have the amplifier diagnosed at a different stereo installer, Motion Three Fabrications, they diagnosed that it was the amplifier causing the draw on my battery as there was a short in the amp. When I contacted the manufacturer for the amplifier, JL Audio, they asked why I didn't have them honor the warranty (it was a 3 year warranty ending in 2008), I said that Sound of Tristate wouldn't honor the warranty and kept charging me $60 for a diagnostic after multiple times of not being able to figure it out. After paying them $270 for diagnostics they came out of the bay with my stereo crackling and they said it was all fixed. It was obviously not fixed. I asked for all of my receipts as I had misplaced them and they stated that they didn't even know if I got my stereo installed there, even though I was in there monthly trying to get this issue resolved.
JL Audio honored the warranty years after it had expired because my husband and I became disabled and weren't able to pursue this further, so they honored the warranty, tried to fix the broken amplifier and could not, they sent me an upgrade for free.
When I had it installed my Motion Three Fabrication, they noticed that all of the speakers were blown, except the subwoofer. So I went out and purchased a set of speakers for $208 and had them installed as well.
During install we noticed that the speakers in the front doors were not screwed in all the way and were not sealed to the door and caused rust to get on the speakers from exposure. We also noticed that they didn't install the crossovers to the tweeters in the front, they put in capacitors instead. My speakers came with crossovers and they were supposed to be installed as this came with the speaker purchase, but they took them out and installed a capacitor on both sides instead.
What this did was underpower my stereo system, which caused the speakers to blow and I never received the part I paid for.
This has been going on from the time I purchased the stereo system, 2005, to now. We stopped pursuing the case when we became permanently disabled in 2008, we just started pursuing this again when we got a little better, late last year.Desired Settlement: I want to be compensated for all of the batteries that I purchased ($1200), the cost of one car tow ($100), the cost of the new stereo install ($160), cost of diagnostic from Sound of Tristate ($270), cost of diagnostic from Motion Three Fabrication ($60), cost of new speakers ($208), install of the new amplifier ($60) and the cost of the new capacitor ($30) I put on so it would never be able to drain the battery again if I do run into this issue with this amplifier.
I also want to be compensated for my time and suffering dealing with them and the issues they caused me. This totals to $2088.
This total does not include the crossovers they didn't install and it doesn't include the anguish they caused me throughout all of this.
