Review: I'll start my complaint by clarifying that we booked 4 nights at this property and didn't stay one night. The property was uninhabitable. I was promised a full refund and haven't received it yet. Homeowners are unresponsive.
We arrived after 12 hours of travel to a room that was 95 degrees with no breeze. I called the homeowner (who was not staying in the home that that time) and expressed my concern over the temperature. He proceeded to tell me that “this is just the hot time of year, that’s why we’re not there right now.” My thought is, if you will not stay at your own property because of the temperature, why would you rent it out?
I asked the homeowner if there was a fan I could put in the window and he directed me to below the house for a portable AC. I carried the portable AC upstairs, where we confirmed that it was 95 degrees in the room according to the temperature gauge on the unit. The unit was held together by duct tape and didn’t have the proper attachments. I proceeded to try to get the unit hooked up to the broken window, which subsequently fell apart and cut my thumb open. Needless to say, the AC did not work.
In addition, the smoke alarm was hanging off the wall, there was a wasps nest above the deck stairs, and the “kitchen” they advertise is actually a Rubbermaid container of various appliances and kitchenware under the cheap table outside.
We decided to leave then and get a hotel. I called the homeowner again and left a voicemail explaining why we left the property and all of the issues I listed above. I received a text message from the owner saying that he would refund my money.Desired Settlement: At this point I have only received $323.48 in a refund. I am owed an additional $227. I would also like to request the homeowner to pay for the difference that we had to spend to get a hotel, which is an additional $186.10. This was an unforeseen expense that we were not prepared for due to the homeowner’s untruthful advertising.
All in all, I believe I am entitled to an additional $413.10 in refund.

Response:
Hello,
Upon arrival to our lovely home in Hawaii Aubrey called me and told me that the room was too hot. The room had been vacant for a few days so it was closed and locked and needed to air out, it has windows, a celling fan and huge sliding glass doors, there were no trade winds that day but we can not control the weather. I offered her our portable AC unit to use which she said was broken and checked the temperature which online was showing as highs of 86 and low of 72. Our home is in Hawaii, it is the month of August which is summer. we do not advertise AC but I made it available to her anyways. I than called my guests that were staying in the other room and they said the temperature was fine and they were comfortable. Aubrey than told me she cut her finger trying to use the AC unint and than lyed and said it did not work and said she documented it and wants to leave. I took this as a threat. Our contract states that there are no refunds for cancellations but I refunded her anyways so she would leave. I than had my handyman go and check the portable AC unit and it is fine, she lied.
