Reply to complaint letter from [redacted]:Mr. [redacted] called Smitty's for an estimate of cost to installan engine in his vehicle. He stated the engine was rebuilt andjust needed to be installed- The labor only estimation overthe phone was given at $1,300.00, equal to 13.5 hours. Mr. [redacted]called...
back at a later date stating he would like Smitty's toinstall his engine. He was told that a $700.00 deposit would berequired prior. Mr. [redacted] agreed and paid the deposit and askedSmitty's to tow the vehicle and start the work. After sending thetow truck to pick up his vehicle and asked where is the rebuiltengine, he said he wanted to send a second tow truck to anotheraddress to pick up the engine. We advised hum of the additionalcost for the two tows. After receiving both the vehicle and engine,we called Mr. [redacted] and told him this engine is bare with no partsto install the engine, not as he stated prior. We advised him this being much more involved than justinstalling a complete engine as per our quote over the phone.Wealso explained that some parts and sensor were broken and that theengine had not been removed properly from his vehicle. He saidI Know, my son removed it. We explained to Mr. [redacted] that toinstall this was going to be much more complex than just uninstallinga complete engine and we would need all the parts missing. Hesaid my son lost all the parts. He said I understand and alsowant you to replace brakes and shocks and maybe a paint job.he asked Smitty's to make a list of some of the parts needed.Mr. [redacted] then went to the junkyard and returned with enough partsto start to replace the missing parts and try to start to installhis engine. After spending many hours installing missing parts andbroken bolts, we started to install his engine in the vehicle onlyto find more broken parts on the vehicle. At this point we calledMr [redacted] to advise him of additional labor and parts needed tocontinue with the repairs. His reply over the phone was I am not paying you any moremoney and I will be down to your business to quote"kick your[redacted]" and hung up. The next day we calledMrs. [redacted] and advised her the need to remove the vehicle fromSmitty's as we were not doing any further repairs after beingthreatened by her husband. As of this date, he has not removed the vehicleBradley R.President
