Smith's Accounting & Tax Services Reviews (%countItem)

I met with owner Lora S on ***th to have taxes completed, paid her $***.*** and as of ***th, no taxes had been filed.
I spoke with Lora S on */*** and discussed my situation and her fees and scheduled that day, including prepaying when booking. I received confirmation emails about my appt including text messages. The day of the appt I called to find the exact location since the address in the confirmations was funny and she stated she had no record of an appointment with me and her outlook was being funny so she asked me to book again through ***. I rebooked for ***th and met Lora at a ***. I provided her all of my paperwork and explained my situation. She took notes, including bank and drivers license info. The following day I emailed her my health insurance deductible information, to which she replied. She stated it would be a week or two before she got to my taxes which was fine. When two weeks rolled around she asked me again for my email and date of birth via ***, even though she had that already and had even communicated via email with me. Then on the th she inquired further about my *** distributions. I again explained them although we discussed at ***, and clarified that the amount she had for distributions was not correct and one was a rollover which I had to explain to her the forms and how they are reported. She was going to put more than double the amount of distributions on my tax return had I not caught it. She then emailed me to tell me she added self employed business expenses to get me a larger refund but it would increase my fee. I refused and said I was never self employed and did not approve of the increase in fee or any self employed business expenses. She stopped responding to my emails and started sending me invoices. My fees had more than doubled than what we discussed. I also had to tell her that I already paid $*** and she needed to check her records, which of course I got no response and just an updated invoice. I then had to go back to her to explain the discount we discussed and she simply sent me another updated invoice. After I paid the invoice, a total of $*** she emailed me a week later stating she needed all of my bank information again to file, which I was upset that she already had and wanted to know if all of my personal information had been lost. I provided again and received no response. I emailed her three times and contacted her over *** to confirm my taxes had been filed. I received no response until ***th, at *** of the deadline date stating she needed drivers license information in order to file. Which upset me even more knowing she has sat on these for over a month and waits until the last second to ask for more info that she already took from me. On */*** Lora contact me via email stating my taxes were rejected and she needed my *** adjusted gross income. I provided and explained she already had a copy of my *** taxes, to which she did not respond. I emailed again asking for an update and she replied on ***st stating my taxes have been mailed to me and I will need to sign and mail in on my own. I replied and received no response. I emailed Lora on ***th asking if she used a tracking number for documents and received no response. As of ***th, no taxes had been received by mail and I was forced to file my own taxes and pay additional fees for filing.

Desired Outcome

I would like my fee of $265.00 returned to me as I paid for services that were never provided. *** was unable to provide any proof that she filed my taxes or mailed me documents. I made several attempts to receive verification as well as asked for all documents to be returned to me.

I want to first apologize for late response as I do not use the email you have on file anymore, therefore today is the first acknowledgement of this compliant.

Regarding Mrs. *** compliant;

I met with said client at *** in Madison, TN on *..*** regarding hiring me to prepare her *** & *** state taxes. At that time we discussed pricing on preparing each return based upon how many forms needed to be completed and in fact if a *** state return would need preparing (email correspondence attached.) Pricing was as followed: *** State Return-$*** Return $5=$***. I invoiced client for this amount minus new client discount of $*** = $*** due upon receipt. (invoice attached) she refused to pay it. Since she refused to pay the returns was not sent in to ***, they would not be until she paid invoice in full according to my payment terms. We also discussed time frame of completion, which was two weeks minimum due to the fact I have several clients ahead of her. Mrs. at that time totally understood and was in no hurry. On numerous occasions I requested information from her to verify before filing returns, she would appear to get upset & rude by her email responses if I asked for information that previously I did not receive.
Nevertheless, Her federal return was by *.*5., however it rejected for incorrect *** (Adjusted Gross Income) from previous year return. She did not know what it was and could not supply me with it so I could efile. With that being stated, mailing returns were the other option in which I informed her. I mailed originals with my signature to her, noted where she needed to sign on both returns then mail them to the address I had provided for her. I did advise her to keep a copy after she signed them before she mailed originals.

NOTE: Tax Return statues for both *** & *** State is attached.

I do inform clients so they are aware, when I mail returns to them to be signed, it is their responsibility to be sure to mail them to *** for processing.

I believe services were provided (as attached documentation shows) to client and no refund will be given.

If you need more email correspondence let me know.

I also would like this compliant to be taken off my business.

Customer Response • May 21, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The statements provided by the business owner are false. Original pricing was discussed in writing on *//19, via *** messenger in which I booked an appointment and also paid $125 at the time of booking. Proof of payment attached. We did not discuss any pricing during our in person meeting on *//19. *** advised me of updated pricing via email on *//19, proof of email correspondence attached. Also provided is proof that I responded about the fees on *//19, the same day she provided the invoice pf $***. I requested an updated invoice as *** did not include or deduct the $5 I had already paid her. She sent me an updated invoice for $1*** then did not include the $*** discount we discussed, therefore another invoice was requested. On */*** 2019 sent a new invoice for $*** and I had emailed her stating there was no option to pay. I then went ahead and sent $*** to *** via Google Pay on */*** at *:***, and emailed her advising the invoice had been paid. If my return was filed because I refused to pay, but *** had $5 of my money weeks in advance and then received full remaining balance as soon as invoice was sent then why were my taxes not filed then? Time frame was never an issue until I contacted *** on *** & *** asking for confirmation of taxes being filed and she responded on *** 25th at *:, which is the day of the deadline, stating she needed driver's license info. I have attached emails of all proof showing I returned ***'s email within hours of receiving a request for additional information. I was dumbfounded at the numerous attempts she sent requests for additional information she had taken from me in person at *** on *//19 and was concerned that all of my personal information was lost while in the hands of ***. Provided is proof of all responses, and there was not one incident in which *** did not receive an email with the requested information. No proof that my taxes had been filed on */*5 was provided, even after multiple attempts to confirm. Ms. emailed me on */*** at *:*** stating my taxes were rejected due to needing my adjusted gross income from ***. I provided Ms. with a printed copy of my *** taxes on */. I also responded to Ms. Smiths email the same day, */*** one *:*** stating she already had my *** taxes and had my ***. I also attached another copy of my *** taxes to *** in an email on the same day at *:***, therefore she had my adjusted gross income figures to resubmit my taxes within hours of her request. I received no response from *** and continued to contact her asking if my taxes were resubmitted. *** responded on***,*** via email stating copies of my tax returns have been mailed to me and I will need to sign both state and federal returns, and mail originals to ***. I contacted *** on/*** via email stating no documents had been received and I hope she sent the certified with some form of tracking, and never received a response. As of/, no taxes or documents had been received in the mail. Therefore I still have paid for services she has not followed through on. I provided proof I supplied her with my *** she claims she needed to file, but no attempt to resubmit was made.

I was able to electronically file my taxes without issue on//. If *** had in fact filed my taxes as stated and they were rejected, I would not have been able to file again as my social security number would have been duplicated and shown as taxes were already attempted to be filed. *** would have also received email confirmation had she electronically filed by ***5th as she stated, and has yet to provide any such emails. I had to consult another tax preparer that stated the only reason I would have ever had to mail in paper forms of taxes is if there had been fraud. I also contacted the ***, who was unable to locate any such filing on my behalf under my social security number for ***.

I have provided all proof disputing ***'s claims. It has been over two months since originally meeting with ***, and I still have nothing to show for services she claims to have provided. Also, there was no discussion of mailing in tax returns, as there is an email attached stating she needs my bank account information in order to e-file, so this is false as well.

Smith's Accounting & Tax Services Response • May 21, 2019

Document Attached***
Attached is all OTHER documentation in which shows I did in fact prepare Mrs. taxes, efiled them they rejected for incorrect ***, I then communicated to Mrs. returns would need to be mailed. I then mailed both federal and state returns certified to her alone with her other tax docs she provided with instructions which were she would need to sign both copies where I had noted and mail them to the addresses I highlighted in yellow. I also advised her to keep a signed copy of each for her records.

I'm very taken back that Mrs *** continues to try and discredit me and my company. She has given me problems since day one, however I've been nothing but nice yet straight to the point with her. I've had to ban her from my *** business page & LinkedIn pages because of rude comments she would post.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, IF MRS. PREPARED HER OWN TAXES, HOW DID SHE COME UP WITH SAME EXACT FIGURES/REFUND AMOUNT AS MY PREPARED RETURNS/REFUND AMOUNT SHOWS?
