On 01/10/18 I took my car for a Smog Check at SMG Auto Smog & Repair. After writing the work sheet my car was taken in for smog check and I waited for more than an hour and at last the tech told me that my car did not pass and was told to drive 150 miles and come back for a retest for free. So I drove 250 miles and went back for a retest on 01/15/18. The tech checked my car with a tester and said my car is not ready for the smog check and was asked to drive another 150 miles and come back but he will charge me again for the test because I have passed 5 days. So I took my car to another Star Station and my car passed all the test in 30 minutes. I believe that SMG have old equipment and or bad tester or they are cheating and failing cars so they can recharge for the test. This is the first time in 55 years of me being a driver and a owner that I was told my car is not ready for smog. Please stop this and be a good businessman. - Consumer
Review: On 4-11-15 I went to get a smog check at this business, the owner - [redacted] - said there was a pending code which would cause a fail, he recommended I replace the accelerator pedal and drive it 100 miles to clear the code, but I had to pick up the part myself and they would only charge me $85 for labor. I followed his recommendation and had the vehicle smogged on 4-18-15 - it passed. During the week of May 10th through 16th my check engine light and engine reduced power light came on. I brought the vehicle back to SMG Auto Smog & Repair on 5-17-15, [redacted] checked it and said the same codes were on so the part must be defective so I would need to get a new one and he would swap it out no charge. I brought the vehicle back on 5-23-15 to have the accelerator pedal replaced a second time. On 6-13-15 the same "check engine" and "engine reduced power" lights came on again. I brought the vehicle back to SMG Auto Smog & Repair and [redacted] said the same codes were on it again and asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I didn't know which is why I brought it back. The mechanic who had been working on my vehicle, I do not remember his name, said I could get an official GM part and bring it back and he would swap it out again - the previous parts were after-market - and if that did not fix it then it may be an issue with the ECM, I do not know what that is. I said that was fine, but then [redacted] interjected and said they have already done this repair twice and he can't keep putting his guy on it and only make $85. I reminded him he said there was a life-time warranty on the part and he had promised to take care of any issues directly resulting from the repair. He said he would refund my $85 and swap the replacement accelerator pedal for the original so I could take it somewhere else. I told him the repair was not complete, and this was unacceptable. He said he didn't want to waste any more time on my vehicle.Desired Settlement: I do not want this shop working on my vehicle anymore as the owner obviously does not want to fulfill his obligation, so instead of having more issues with my vehicle because he did something to it out of spite I would prefer to take it to the dealership and have them diagnose the issue and make the repairs. What I want from the shop is for them to refund me the expenses for the dealership costs to fully repair the vehicle since they did not want to do the job correctly in the first place.
