Smartstop Self-Storage

Review: The SmartStop self-storage company charges a lien fee that is not a valid fee. If an occupant defaults on the rental agreement, this storage company charges a $125 lien fee. Once all delinquent amounts are satisfied, the SmartStop self-storage company charges the lien fee regardless. The lien fee is a fee charged in excess of the rental amount, insurance amount, and accessed late fees. This fee is not associated with anything done relating to the default of the rental agreement. It is only an across the board fee attached because the occupant is in default. Despite there being no sale of property, no listing in the newspaper, no sustainable work relating to the lien fee, the fee must be satisfied in order for the renter to be given access to the property and the rent be considered paid in full. There is no valid reason for this fee and it is not legal. Liens are the amount owed to the company, not a dreamed up amount attached to what is owed. I have contacted and spoken to [redacted] (the district manager) and [redacted] (a corporate representative in California). No one in the company is willing to remove or refund this invalid fee.Desired Settlement: I would like the amount of the incorrectly accessed fee returned (refunded).
