From the first phone call to the last straw being placed in my yard, I cannot be more satisfied with the quality of the work, the personnel and communication with Smallwood. After failing my inspection and notified that I would need a complete replacement, the Health Dept. sent me a list of registered contractors to contact. When I was shocked at the 45K estimate from the first contractor I called, he said “Maybe you should get a job to pay for it.” I worked for 33 years, am single, have no family, handicapped, on a fixed income and did not qualify for any grant program. The next guy said “That’s what it costs and you really don’t have a choice.”. Another contractor on the list said. ”I only put in one kind of system and the Health Department loves me.”. By this time my stress and anxiety was through the roof. I received a return call from Mike S and he asked if he could stop by to talk to me. We sat down and he explained the process and what to expect from start to finish with no condescending tone or pressure to hire his company. The week before the work began, Tim, from Smallwood stopped by and introduced himself. Every person from the front office and every worker that came to my property was kind, considerate and respectful. I needed additional plumbing in my basement. Smallwood selected the plumber to do the work. Tim and Nick from Kevin’s Plumbing were a pleasure to have in my home and did a fantastic, above and beyond the minimal job of clean- up when they left. My 86 year old widowed neighbor failed before me and was so confused by the whole process she called her Lawyer and asked him to make the calls and select the contractor for her job. He got back with her with only one company and that was Smallwood. The contractor you choose should have your back, making decisions on your behalf based on your personal and financial situation. The last thing I have to say is when you’re facing a job of this size and expense choose your contractor wisely.
