Small Space Self Storage

Review: My husband and I went to Small Space Self Storage on 4/24/15 to move our items out and cancel our storage unit. We recently moved to an apartment with a garage that offers us plenty of storage space for no additional cost. On trying to remove our items from the premise, we found out that the wood to get to the mechanical lift was rotted through. This is a huge safety hazard so I understand that we could not get to the lift to remove our washer/dryer from the unit. The problem is that that section of stairs with the lift had been out of commission for three weeks prior to us coming in to remove our items. We were NEVER notified by email, phone, or letter that we could not use the stairs or lift because of rotted wood. We would expect a business to notify us in some way when something like this happens and we would hope that they would do everything in their power to fix the issue immediately. Not almost a month later. A discount on the unit does not solve our issue. This place is essentially holding our items hostage because we have not way to physically remove them from the property. So we are paying to have them store our items because we have no way to safely get the heavy items out without access to that lift. As of 4/28/15, the problem has still not been fixed nor have we received a phone call, letter, or email from the owner, as we requested to the day manager, explaining the situation and giving us an approximate date that the wood will be replaced.Desired Settlement: We would like to hear back from the owner and have them fix the rotted wood problem immediately so we can remove our items and leave ASAP. Or we ask that the owner pay for professional movers to move the last of our items out of the unit and to our new place. We do not want to continue to pay rent because we have no other option than to leave our heavy items in the unit.
