SM Race Cars

Review: I am filing this complaint against SM Race Cars, [redacted], Virginia [redacted]. I entered into a contract with SM Race Cars on May 31, 2012, to transform my vintage 1966 [redacted] into a custom street/show car. SM Race Cars executed an invoice for the build, which totaled $16,000.00. During the following weeks after SM Race Cars commenced work on my car, SM Race Cars raised the contract price of the car build by $6,000.00, totaling $22,000.00. In addition to the $22,000.00 I paid them, I also paid SM Race Cars $10,000.00 to paint my car. I paid SM Race Cars a total of $32,000.00 to complete the above-referenced work. I was told that my car would be completed by March 2013. As of January 2014, my car has not been completed and remains a shell with a few bars welded beneath the shell. Additionally, since May 2012, I have not received any of the new parts indicated on the invoice that were to be purchased in order to complete my car, despite being told numerous times that these parts have already been ordered. Not only has SM Race Cars not finished my car, but they damaged my car by denting the body in numerous places, and mistakenly cutting the front off of the car and temporarily welding it back on without reattaching it completely. Further, SM Race Cars utilized inferior and cheaper metals than the sturdier more expensive metal specified in the invoice. Upon inspection, I also discovered that the frame of the car is not straight. Finally, as a consequence of the car not being completed, the car has never been painted. SM Race Cars has damaged my car and failed to meet the agreed upon deadline of March 2013 by over 10 months. Additionally, the car was never painted. SM Race Cars has ignored my request to refund any of my $32,000.00.Desired Settlement: Refund of my money.
