Beware of this leasing office. I have a misdemeanor on my record that pulled up as a felony in their system. I’ve never had this issue before, and when I asked a lawyer, they said it’s the background check system they’re using. As I stated, has never been an issue with an apartment, jobs... it’s 9 years old. I sent them the official court documents showing it’s a misdemeanor, and they said that wasn’t enough and I needed to go to the credit bureau to fix this... what? When I run a rental history report, my misdemeanor comes up.
This wasn’t the first or second issue with them. I applied on a Tuesday for an immediate/ASAP move-in. The 2bd apartment she showed me was.. okay. It’ll work fine for the rent cost, but there was a pickle jar full of cigarette butts in the hallway and what I saw of the apartment seemed kind of dirty. Just from a quick first impression I thought it definitely was overrated on Google. The maintenance must really just be out of this world, or they ran a campaign to get good reviews.
I’m a student, so I have a guarantor, and even the application process wasn’t smooth. I applied online Tuesday and was told there was a way to have him apply online through my application as my guarantor. There was no way to do that, and the next day, they said he’d have to fill out a manual application. I sent them the email address to send to. The next day, they send the form. We’ve spent 2 days trying to just apply now. After he applied via email, I didn’t hear back. On Friday, I called them at ~9:30am and reminded them I needed to move immediately. They said to come in at 11 and we’ll go over your forms. It’s now on the 4th day since I applied. I find out they had changed the apartment I was applying for by noticing the number was different. They’re like, oh, so-and-so didn’t tell you? No, they didn’t. There was a lot of miscommunication and frankly, incompetence at this point. They tell me the exact amount to get for the money order and that electric and renters insurance needs to happen. I come back after getting all 3, they have me fill out and sign the money orders, and less than 2 minutes later tell me I’ve been denied for the criminal check. I said okay, I have the court documents and immediately sent to them. I called twice, no answer. I went back up there, and the manager says it only takes a phone call. I reminded him I applied on Tuesday, and he rudely said they have 72 hours to run an application. Thank goodness I didn’t wait for them. I went and got a refund on the money orders which would’ve been a 2 month process if I didn’t take them back that day. At this point, I didn’t even want to rent from them. I’ll stick with nicer apartments where I don’t have any of these issues. I didn’t get any correspondence until Sunday at 5:30pm saying they’d talk to their supervisor on Monday. I was curious what they’d say even though it’s a done deal on my end. On Monday, they tell me I need to fix with credit bureau... It took them 3 days just to make a phone call?
