Review: California law violated; gift certificate not honored.

We purchased a $50 gift certificate to Sky Sushi, and attempted to redeem the gift certificate on May 4, 2013. We were rudely informed that the gift certificate would not be honored. We were unable to speak to the manager or the owner, despite our requests; we were told that the owner lives overseas. The reason we were told that the gift certificate could not be used was that it was "old" but I believe California law requires businesses to honor gift certificates regardless of how old they are (i.e., they do not expire). I feel cheated and treated extremely rudely. Desired Settlement: At a minimum, I would like a cash refund for the value of the gift certificate. If I am not successful in successful resolution by May 10, 2013, then I will file a small claims case.

We issued him a refund for his old certificate and issued him a new gift card as well to make up for the inconvenience.
