On moving day one person arrived, looked at our items to pack and ship internationally, said everything was fine, briefly used the bathroom, and walked out to get the packing materials. A few minutes later I got a call from his boss in the office, claiming the man had seen a cockroach in my house (I strongly doubt that to be true, and they didn't provide evidence), and therefore refused to touch, move, and ship any of my items. Note this was not told to me beforehand, and is not in any of the contracts.
Luckily another moving company was willing to ship all my items very lastminute (I was moving abroad and had to vacate the flat!), even picking up on Christmas Day, but because everything was so lastminute they charged double the price (I can't blame them).
S&K2000 left me in a completely messy and very stressful situation, and forcing me into much higher expenses. They claim they will refund me but I haven't heard anything from them since. I was promised to be called back several times but this never happened. When I call them, the boss is 'in a meeting' and 'will call me back'. I haven't heard from them since moving day (two weeks ago).
Honestly I feel they just made up an excuse not to have to move my stuff. I only saw one person to pack & bring several heavy items down the stairs, never saw his colleague who was 'waiting downstairs', never saw a van or truck, didn't hear him flush a toilet, and strongly doubt he actually saw evidence of a cockroach.
On their website they suggest to be a member of the American Moving & Storage Association, but when you check with AMSA they are not actually registered there.
Don't use this company!
Review: In January 2012, the moving company S[redacted] with offices in Hangenbieten in France and Moonachie New Jersey USA, moved what we had in a house in France to our house of Milford, Ohio USA.
We chose a moving company with US offices on purpose thinking they would be more reliable.
1- The container was not filled up but the movers had already put the glassware boxes in the container and did not want to move them out and in again to fit the last boxes left in the truck going back to Hangenbieten.
These boxes would be shipped to the US inside another container that would not be filled up. Since our daughter lives in Philadelphia, We agree to get the boxes at our daughter.
I kept asking about the boxes. No answer or they are still in storage. This month, it was different. If I wanted the boxes I had to pay 750 Euros and to pick them up in Moonachie (New jersey). It looks like blackmail or some kind of hostage situation.
2 – The container did not come from Le Havre as forecast but from Antwerp (Belgium) where it stayed for a while and following what Mayflower told us in Cincinnati was not the one to arrive in Milford. Then US customs – Homeland Security Xrayed in and emptied it completely. I must say the [redacted] & [redacted] inventory is not precise. I ended up having many serious damages. I had bought extra insurance to top the insurance the moving companies are supposed to pay by weight.
I kept complaining and waiting for an expert since I had no idea of the exact value of the damages. They were asking for invoices of things I had as presents or inheritance fifty years ago. Finally, I asked around, contacted a well-known antique furniture expert from Cincinnati (I had to pay a $ 150 fee), and went several times to Wiebold Studios (well known too) to get estimates, and start the process of getting things in order.
I am still waiting for the insurance settlement but what can I do since I have so many missing things as I am wondering if they are going to be in the missiDesired Settlement: I would like to get the boxes that have not been shipped within the container but were part of my move.
I also would like to get the insurance settlement

Response:
First of all it has to be noted that S & K 2000 Inc. USA has not handled this shipment at all S & K 2000 France is not any longer affiliated with S & K 2000 Inc.in the USA. since 1998 we had no dealings with this customer at any time. The delivery of the household goods in the USA was handled as stated by Mr. [redacted] himself by a Mayflower van Line Agent in Cincinnati. However it also should be noted that US customs did a full inspection of the shipment which is usually a safe indicator for massive damage an as well as for loss of items since US customs unfortunately never invites the shippers to be present at examination and is not using professional movers to assist during the examination either but only temp. port helpers. and the miss -handling of household goods shipment by US customs has become a big problem for our industry nationwide.

I am rejecting this response because: S & K France advertised and still does they have an office in the USA in New Jersey. They delivered the shipment in the USA, they choose Mayflower for Cincinnati. As long as they delivered goods on the territory they are doing business in the US and should be liable.
Regards,
Stay away from them if you want accurate and timely communication or customer service.
Here is our experience: My wife and I moved from [redacted] to [redacted] this summer. The guys who came to pack up and remove our things were great. They worked efficiently and effectively, and were quite friendly. We got to [redacted] Aug. 17th, our container arrived within a day, and suddenly the company representative told us it will take 5 to 10 days in order for them to obtain a [redacted] parking permit for their truck. No one had ever mentioned this to us back in [redacted]. We had timed our arrival and rented an Airbnb apartment all around the expected arrival date of Aug. 17th repeatedly told to us by various company personnel. Now, suddenly we learned that we would not have any of our goods for another two weeks, as the company would not make the delivery until Sept. 1-2! They did nothing to address the delay. And we had no leverage since we had paid in full in advance. We never received any word of apology from anyone.
The day arrived, the truck came and our things were moved in. These guys are fine, again working efficiently, even fixing some of the furniture that got broken in transit. Afterward, we were asked to sign that everything had come and that we were satisfied. I asked, "But how do I know everything has arrived?" Checking the boxes that arrived against the inventory yielded a few missing numbers and a few repeated numbers. Plus some big pieces of furniture had arrived broken (as mentioned above) and we had barely begun to open the boxes, so how were we supposed to know if everything arrived safely?! "Just sign and write a note to that effect," one of the movers said. He told us that we had 14 days to make a claim (we had insured some of our things). (Only fourteen days!?!) I suppose I could have refused to sign. Wonder how that would have gone.
Anyway, 14 days later we were still not completely unpacked. But we were unpacked enough to be able to file a claim on day 13 with photos of various damaged items. I must say that the damages were saddening, but not terrible, given the volume and distance of the move. We also noted in our claim that several boxes still seemed to be missing, according to the inventory numbers. And, we realized ourselves, there were various items missing. To our astonishment, we never heard back from anyone at the company! Despite follow-up emails, they simply declined to acknowledge our communications, much less respond to our claim!
To top things off, we were told by the people who bought our place in [redacted] that they found a drawer of personal files that the movers had failed to pack and ship. We communicated this to the company, expecting them to take care of their failure. Again, no response whatsoever! Yes, we also had failed to notice the files, but you would think after the thousands of dollars we paid for their services, [redacted] would want to do right by their customers. Evidently not. We have been forced to resort to an attorney.
