SJS Contracting

My propane fireplace wasn't working. The propane supplier recommended this contractor. I contacted him, he showed up promptly and looked at the fireplace about 10 minutes. He told me it required a new gas valve. He supposedly ordered the part immediately, and told me I would have to pay for the part in advance - $315.00. I gave him a check, that was cashed the next day. This was 10/21/19. The part was supposed to be in by 11/4/19. I waited until the week after 11/4 and called him to inquire about the part - he said he would call the vendor and call me back - never did. I called him the following week and left a message on voice mail. He called me the following week, said the part was in, and he could come to finish the repair the Friday before Thanksgiving. Never came, never called. I called him every week between Thanksgiving and the week before Christmas. No luck. I called the propane company to see if they could contact him - they never called me back either. My last call to him was 1/6/2020; he said if it didn't snow the next day he would be here. Never came, never called. I believe I've been scammed and out $315, which is a lot for a senior citizen.
